China cancels weightlifting Grand Prix

Beijing, June 1: The 2009 China Grand Prix has been cancelled because of the global outbreak of influenza A (H1N1), commonly known as swine flu, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has said.

"Due to the ... influenza around the world, the Chinese Weightlifting Association (CWA) decided to cancel the IWF Grand Prix for 2009," said the IWF.

The IWF Grand Prix was scheduled July 26-Aug 2 in east China's Fujian province, the hometown of Olympic weightlifting champions Shi Zhiyong and Zhang Xiangxiang.
