Atlantis landing attempt waved off

Houston -- A landing attempt by the U.S. space shuttle Atlantis was waved off Friday because of weather conditions, NASA officials said.

Officials at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida were preparing for a second landing opportunity just before noon, Eastern time, NASA's Web site said.

Parts of Florida have been inundated by rain for the past several days, but weather forecasters said conditions were expected to begin clearing.

Atlantis arrived May 13 at the Hubble Space Telescope, where the crew performed five spacewalks to repair and upgrade the telescope.
