The users said travelers who insist on posting constant updates about the small details of their vacations on the Web sites run the risk of annoying their friends and readers with uninteresting content, USA Today reported Friday.
Nalini Lamba-Nieves of Washington said she tires of traveling Facebook friends giving constant updates like, "I'm sitting here at airport X and Delta is charging me for bags."
However, she said she appreciates "short and sweet" messages posted by a friend who traveled to Italy with her ailing mother for an audience with the pope.
Jed Sundwall, a San Diego-based social media consultant, said a friend traveling in London posted descriptions of the city's subway on Twitter.
"When people travel, everything is exciting and new, so they have a tendency to tweet about mundane things that they otherwise wouldn't in the U.S.," he said.
Sundwall said he stayed away from Twitter during his recent week-long vacation in Hawaii.
"Breaking out my phone in front of this beautiful island seemed wrong to me," he said.
