Serbia's inflation rate hits 8.8 percent

Belgrade, Serbia -- Serbia's retail prices rose 0.9 percent in April, an annual increase of 8.8 percent, the Statistics Bureau said.

When compared with prices in March, medicines and public healthcare services led the list of April increases at 6.1 percent, followed by 2.2 percent for entertainment and cultural events, 1.3 percent for transport, 1.1 percent for furniture, and 0.7 percent for food, soft drinks, hotels and restaurants.

In working out inflation figures, the Serbian statistics office is using methods of the European Union that include average changes of retail prices of goods and services for personal consumption, apartment rentals, and financial, education and catering services.
