Dye was thrown out of the White Sox game Wednesday when he argued with umpire Mike DiMuro after he was called out on strikes. Dye threw his batting helmet, which may have bounced and hit DiMuro, in the incident.
Chicago Manager Ozzie Guillen was also thrown out of the game in an ensuing argument.
Dye was suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount Friday by American League officials. Unless he appeals the disciplinary action, Dye would begin serving the suspension Friday when the White Sox play at Toronto.
In 31 games this season, Dye is hitting .283 with seven home runs and 17 runs batted in.
