Injury sidelines Kentucky Derby favorite

Louisville -- I Want Revenge, the early morning favorite to win the Kentucky Derby, was scratched from Saturday's racing lineup with an ankle injury, a trainer says.

Trainer Jeff Mullins confirmed I Want Revenge's left ankle was sore as a result of an inflammation, forcing the horse to be pulled from Saturday's derby race as a precaution, Brisnet Editorial reported on the Derby Web site.

"We will live to fight another day," said David Lanzman, who co-owns the Wood Memorial winner.

Dr. Larry Bramlage told The Washington Post no serious injuries were found in I Want Revenge, a 3-1 early morning favorite, but added additional tests were needed to determine the full extent of the horse's injury.

The Post said the removal of I Want Revenge from Saturday afternoon's race means Dunkirk and Friesan Fire are the likely top remaining favorites.

The Derby Web site lists Dunkirk as a 4-1 favorite along with Pioneer of the Nile, while Friesan Fire had a morning line of 5-1.
