Crude oil prices jump

New York -- Crude oil prices jumped on the New York Mercantile Exchange early Friday with the economy showing signs of improvement.

After a tough Monday, stock markets rallied Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and have generally headed up for the past six weeks.

On Friday, crude oil prices gained $1.74 to $51.36 per barrel. Heating oil prices gained 0.0434 cents to $1.3613 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline rose 0.0396 cents to $1.434 per gallon. Natural gas prices fell 0.019 cents to $3.39 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.059, down from Thursday's $2.063 a gallon, AAA said.
