Idol winner Carrie Underwood is "Entertainer of the Year"

Las Vegas, April 6: American Idol Fourth Season winner Carrie Underwood took home the much-coveted 'Entertainer of the Year' award at this year’s Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards.

The country pop singer and songwriter became only the 7th female to win the award in the entire history of the ACM Awards, spanning 39 years. Previous female winners were Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks.

Upon accepting her award, Underwood said, "I've had a lot of good moments in the past four years. This one takes the cake. Thank you God, thank you fans, thank you to ACM for nominating me in the first place. I never thought I'd be nominated and never thought I'd win. I'm shaking. I don't know what to say."

Underwood’s win broke Kenny Chesney’s dominance, who failed to bag fourth straight win for the entertainer of the year category.

Aside from the entertainer of the year award, Underwood also bagged the award for best female vocalist for the third consecutive year. She told the audience how receiving this award made her feel like winning American Idol once again.

Underwood won the fourth season of American Idol in 2005, and made her presence known at the ACM Awards in 2006, winning the best female vocalist award and best single for her song Jesus, Take the Wheel.

The ACM was also dominated by another female, the 19-year-old Taylor Swift. The teen country singer won the album of the year award for her multi-platinum album “Fearless”. She was also given a trophy for being the top-selling country artist.

Swift said, "A lot of people who know me know if you talk to me more than 5 minutes I'm probably going to write a song about you."

Other winners at the ACM Awards included Brad Paisley, who took home the top male vocalist award, video of the year and vocal of the year for his duet with Keith Urban.

Rascal Flatts won for top vocal group while Sugarland won for top vocal duo. Julianne Hough, known for being n the reality show “Dancing with the Stars” took home the top new artist and the top new female vocalist awards. The top male vocalist award went to Jake Owen.

Capping off the awards, the single record of the year went to Trace Adkins for “You’re Gonna Miss This” and the song of the year to Jamey Johnson for “In Color”.

Carrie EOTY

Sorry, I like Carrie, but she would not have won this award if it had not been fan voted...which takes away so much from this particular award. I think the ACMs should rethink this fan voting thing! Everything now is based too much on popularity instead of talent. She's got talent, but she has not been out on the touring circuit like the rest of the guys have. One thing though, is I'm so glad she knocked Kenny Chesney out of getting it!!
