Crude oil prices rise

New York-- Crude oil prices jumped to more than $51 a barrel early Thursday on the New York Mercantile Exchange despite a report that U.S. stockpiles remain high.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said Wednesday that stockpiles rose 2.8 million barrels in the week and remain at more than the upper limit for of the average range for this time of year.

Total gasoline inventories were up 2.2 million barrels in the week ending March 27.

Energy commodity prices rose anyway. Crude oil prices gained $2.67 to $51.06 per barrel.

Heating oil prices gained 0.0652 cents to $1.411 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline rose 0.0491 cents to $1.4208 per gallon. Natural gas prices rose 0.057 cents to $3.725 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.045 Thursday, down from Wednesday's $2.047 a gallon, AAA said.
