Here is a glimpse of the sections that govern the penalties for not timely filling the income tax returns.

All those who''ve not filed IT returns may now have to go through numerous penalties and consequences as categorized under a number of sections. Here is an overview of what can be done.

Section 234A

According to section 234A in the Income Tax Act, if a person does not file IT returns till July 31 he has to pay an interest of one percent per month. For example, if a person has to file a tax of 10000 the he would be receiving an interest of three percent on it. So, in this case after three months, the interest would be three thousand.

What is the Interest under Section of 234B?

If a person has not paid tax on or before March 31 and the tax liability crosses Rs. 10,000 in the financial year then every month one percent interest would be charged from the person.

Section 234C

If a person does not fill Income tax returns on time, additional interest is levied on him under section 243C.

What happens if you’ve not filed tax returns for a complete financial year?

In such a case a person has to pay a discretionary penalty of Rs. 5,000. This implies that if a person has not filed tax returns in the last assessment year, then a person can file the returns without any penalty in the current assessment year. But in case a person does not file the tax return in current assessment year as well, then he has a lot to forego. This encapsulates a penalty of 5,000 and also per month one percent interest.

What about Capital Loss?

In case of capital loss, it is significant to file it before July 31 of the assessment year. Capital losses are not permitted to carry forward until the returns are not filed on time. If the person files the returns late, he can still perpetuate with the selling of property, house or land.

Rectification through Revised Filings

If there are any loopholes while filing of income tax returns, those can be rectified by filling revised returns.

Experts’ advice; one must prevent from falling into enigmatic penalties and tribulations. It’s always good to file income tax returns on time.

originally Published on 2013-08-06.

India IT Returns People Personal Finance Section 234A Section 234B Section 234C Top Story Sat, 22 Feb 2014 10:34:09 +0000 Neha Dutt 1701713442 at http://www.themoneytimes.com The 10 worst ATM card PINs, is yours one? http://www.themoneytimes.com/featured/20140203/10-worst-atm-card-pins-yours-one-id-1701713433.html

Given that most security breaches and frauds are due to weak passwords, you would think that people realize the importance of personalized PIN and be more creative.

Though people are encouraged to select secure, strong passwords, a new study by DataGenetics found that average users continue to opt for the same, consistent, weak, easy to guess ones for their debit and credit cards, placing themselves at risk from fraud and identity theft.

The analysis found nearly 27 percent Americans use the least safe PIN numbers on ATM cards.

List of worst passwords
Nick Berry, a former rocket scientist and the president of Data Genetics, compiled a list of the worst passwords after examining 3.4 million PINs and published the results on a blog post.

Given that you can't get access to PIN number databases is not possible, the researchers made the list from stolen passwords posted online by hackers.

The study identified '1234' as the number one default password used by nearly 11 percent cardholders as ATM PIN making it the worst and most insecure in the collection posted.

The second most popular was 1111 used by more than six percent people in the nation. (NYSE:WMT) has declared the holiday shopping season open by offering customers lucrative online deals one month in advance.

The general tradition of U.S. retailers is to kick off the holiday shopping season on or a day after Thanksgiving with the best online deals reserved for “Cyber Monday.”

Given that Thanksgiving falls on November 28, retailers are aware that the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is six days shorter this year than it was in 2012. This reduces some very vital shopping days which is likely to have an adverse impact on sales.

This apparently has prompted Wal-Mart to jump the gun and start offering deals and incentives early to squeeze in more sales in the shortened shopping season.

"We know that our customers start shopping for the holidays on Nov. 1 because historically our traffic spikes the day after Halloween," said CEO of Wal-Mart.com Joel Anderson in a statement. "We are helping them make the most of their time and helping them stretch their dollars further."

Early bird specials
Wal-Mart offered about 100 holiday deals online after Halloween mostly home décor in 2012. This year, the retailer is offering more than 300 holiday deals including toys.

Beginning Friday, customers can get a head start across merchandise ranging from electronics to apparel. An 8-inch Nextbook tablet which carries a price tag of $139 will cost $99 through Wal-Mart.

Some early bird specials include a JVC 42” LDC HDTV for $299 (a 36 percent discount), the Nintendo DSiXL for $89, the Xelio 10” tablet for $49 (original price $100) and a Crayola 2-in-1 double easel for $25. Moreover, the retailer is also offering free shipping for orders of $50 or more on nearly everything sold on Walmart.com.

Apart from Wal-Mart, Toys ‘R’ Us is giving shoppers the option of booking items until they’re ready to buy and Amazon has opened its Black Friday Deals Store that will offer two deals every day until December 22.

Wal-Mart is offering more than 300 holiday deals including toys.

Business kicks off holiday shopping season People six fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas to squeeze in more sales Top Story United States Wal-Mart Sat, 02 Nov 2013 06:06:21 +0000 Neka Sehgal 1701713687 at http://www.themoneytimes.com iPhone 5S hit with blue screen of death complaints! http://www.themoneytimes.com/featured/20131013/iphone-5s-hit-blue-screen-death-complaints-id-1701713643.html

Looks like the infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), an issue commonly associated with Microsoft's Windows PC operating system, has made its way into the Apple kingdom!

BSOD is a term coined for a computer, phone or device when it freezes and literally displays a plain blue screen.

Many owners of the flagship iPhone 5S have been plagued by the vicious BSOD.

Users are experiencing a problem which sees the device flash a blue screen for a few seconds before it turns black and the Apple logo returns, a sign that a random reboot is in process.

The error occurs when users are switching between heavy apps, especially when they use Apple's own iWork suite, like Pages, Keynote and Numbers. However, some have reportedly faced the problem on their phones while using Safari, the camera and FaceTime.

Affected users bemoan the problem
Many of those affected have taken to Apple's support forum to lament about the problem. One user grumbled, "I just got the new Iphone 5s in slate grey. When using my phone going in and out of apps, my phones screen will suddenly turn solid blue for about [two] seconds then the apple logo will appear and it restarts my phone."

Another added, "I'm getting something like this too, with my iPhone 5s 64GB which I bought on Saturday. I've also found that if I open a document in Numbers, then press the power button, the phone seems to power itself off almost instantly instead of just going to sleep."

How to fix BSOD on the iPhone 5s?
The BSOD error seems to be exclusive to iPhone 5s users.
