For this, NASA has picked one out of a number of machines ranging from $300 desktop models to $500,000 warehouse builders.

The venture is being dubbed as a great achievement for the agency as it would free astronauts from carrying every tool, spare part, or anything that may be required on space.

The printer would craft objects by protruding layer over layer of plastic made from the long strands enveloped around large spools. These spools would substitute for scores of extra instruments and hardware in the upcoming mission. However, the mission is only a demonstration of printing.

The machines were initially developed to be used on Earth or confront the space challenges such as problems of launch or pressure of functioning in the orbit. This encapsulates issues like microgravity, different air pressures, extreme temperatures and limited power. So, the basic purpose of 3D printers was to tone down such problems.

NASA had hired Silicon Valley startup Made In Space to construct something that would not be hackneyed. According to the director of engineering at Nasa''''s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, about 35 miles south of San Francisco, "If you want to be adaptable, you have to be able to design and manufacture on the fly, and that''''s where 3D printing in space comes in.”

According to Aaron Kemmer, CEO of Made in Space, "Imagine an astronaut needing to make a life-or-death repair on the International Space Station. Rather than hoping that the necessary parts and tools are on the station already, what if the parts could be 3-D printed when they needed them?"

Fleshing out the details, the engineers at NASA have been 3D printing miniature satellites that would be shuttled out of the International Space Station.

3-D printer’s inventor Andrew Filo, who is consulting with NASA on the project, has said, "Any time we realize we can 3D print something in space, it''''s like Christmas. You can get rid of concepts like rationing, scarce or irreplaceable.”

Though the mission is initially a demonstration of printing, finally it would have to capture gasses moving out from the extruded plastics, print their own parts for self-repairs and recycle printed products.

Originally Published on 2013-09-30.
3-D Printers Andrew Filo Gadgets International Space Station NASA News NASA Project Space News Technology Technology Top Story United States Sun, 23 Feb 2014 06:56:42 +0000 Neha Dutt 1701713612 at http://www.themoneytimes.com Repercussions: Did you file IT Returns? http://www.themoneytimes.com/featured/20140222/repercussions-did-you-file-it-returns.html

There are a number of penalties for not filling IT returns on time. Here is an overview of what can be done.

Section 234A

According to section 234A in the Income Tax Act, if a person does not file IT returns till July 31 he has to pay an interest of one percent per month. For example, if a person has to file a tax of 10000 the he would be receiving an interest of three percent on it. So, in this case after three months, the interest would be three thousand.

What is the Interest under Section of 234B?

If a person has not paid tax on or before March 31 and the tax liability crosses Rs. 10,000 in the financial year then every month one percent interest would be charged from the person.

Section 234C

If a person does not fill Income tax returns on time, additional interest is levied on him under section 243C.

What happens if you’ve not filed tax returns for a complete financial year?

In such a case a person has to pay a discretionary penalty of Rs. 5,000. This implies that if a person has not filed tax returns in the last assessment year, then a person can file the returns without any penalty in the current assessment year. But in case a person does not file the tax return in current assessment year as well, then he has a lot to forego. This encapsulates a penalty of 5,000 and also per month one percent interest.

What about Capital Loss?

In case of capital loss, it is significant to file it before July 31 of the assessment year. Capital losses are not permitted to carry forward until the returns are not filed on time. If the person files the returns late, he can still perpetuate with the selling of property, house or land.

Rectification through Revised Filings

If there are any loopholes while filing of income tax returns, those can be rectified by filling revised returns.

Experts’ advice; one must prevent from falling into enigmatic penalties and tribulations. It’s always good to file income tax returns on time.

originally Published on 2013-08-06.

India IT Returns People Personal Finance Section 234A Section 234B Section 234C Top Story Sat, 22 Feb 2014 10:34:09 +0000 Neha Dutt 1701713442 at http://www.themoneytimes.com Lift Heavy Objects With Smart Phone Controlled Smart Lifting Device http://www.themoneytimes.com/featured/20140222/lift-heavy-objects-smart-phone-controlled-smart-lifting-device-id-1701713758.html

The latest lifting device that is controlled by smartphone has the ability to lift heavy items, which can weight about 23 kgs just at the press of a button. There is no need to panic but surely there is a way to tread on now. At times, when a property deal is at the verge of happening, a person encounters the fact that his documents are lost. Oh! That’s sad because they are really important. Sometimes banker is responsible for misplacing them and at times the owner himself.

It is an issue that demands a strict response from the owner’s side. If your banker carries the onus of misplacing them, endeavour to clarify matters and take an action accordingly. The matter is serious and the demand is to immediately respond to the situation. In such a case, you can claim from the bank.

When you have already lost them, then the first thing is to issue duplicate property papers. Getting a property deal completed without papers is an uphill task. Besides, the person must be aware of the first place to approach and the opportunities available on the table.

First Step: File a Police Complaint

Ok! File a police complaint, FIR, immediately when the head gets to know about the misplaced documents. It is significant to file FIR for property documents either misplaced by you or by your bank. You can even take the copy of FIR and show it to the person during the time of sale. This manoeuvre can calm down matters and your deal as well.

Second Step: Advertisement

So, next in line is to get an advertisement published about the missing documents. In this case, get it published in any English Daily and a regional newspaper. It’s prudent to wait for at least 15 days in case someone finds them.

Third Step: File an Application for Share Certificate

After the first two steps are done and second step turns out to be futile, it’s time to file an application for share certificate from the society. Then a meeting is carried by the authorized Resident Welfare Association (RWA). Authenticity of your FIR is scrutinized by the housing society and the fee is charged accordingly. Eventually, a share certificate is issued by the society. Besides, asking for an NOC is a wise decision as it is a helping hand in future.

Fourth Step: Register with the notary

It’s advised that the information about the missing documents must be written on stamp paper. Along with this, also clutch the advertisement and police FIR. They must be attested and registered by the authorities concerned.

Fifth Step: Replica of Sale Deed

Eventually get the replica of the property’s sale deed issued. Here, one has to submit police complaint number, share certificate, text and advertisement. All these records will be placed in the office and after signing them with the notary they will issue a duplicate copy of sale deed.

Originally published on 09-08-2013.
Duplicate sale deed FIR India Missing of property documents Personal Finance Tips Top Story Sun, 09 Feb 2014 14:25:09 +0000 Neha Dutt 1701713458 at http://www.themoneytimes.com The 10 worst ATM card PINs, is yours one? http://www.themoneytimes.com/featured/20140203/10-worst-atm-card-pins-yours-one-id-1701713433.html

Given that most security breaches and frauds are due to weak passwords, you would think that people realize the importance of personalized PIN and be more creative.

Though people are encouraged to select secure, strong passwords, a new study by DataGenetics found that average users continue to opt for the same, consistent, weak, easy to guess ones for their debit and credit cards, placing themselves at risk from fraud and identity theft.

The analysis found nearly 27 percent Americans use the least safe PIN numbers on ATM cards.

List of worst passwords
Nick Berry, a former rocket scientist and the president of Data Genetics, compiled a list of the worst passwords after examining 3.4 million PINs and published the results on a blog post.

Given that you can't get access to PIN number databases is not possible, the researchers made the list from stolen passwords posted online by hackers.

The study identified '1234' as the number one default password used by nearly 11 percent cardholders as ATM PIN making it the worst and most insecure in the collection posted.

The second most popular was 1111 used by more than six percent people in the nation. This was announced in IAC (International Astronautical Federation) meeting where China’s female astronauts; Liu Yang and Wang Yaping were also present.
The announcement explained that the space station would be supporting six crew members on the short-term missions, and in case of long-term, three crew members would be supported.

The space station consists of three capsules encapsulating a core module fixed to two laboratories and also a cargo vessel in order to transport supplies.

Fleshing out the details, the China Manned Space Agency said that the space station will function in an area of 60 sq m. The core module would be weighing 20 to 22 metric tonnes, and would be latched to two self-contained labs.

Test Operations
As soon as the space station would be functional, the long-term missions in orbit and also technical and science experiments would be possible.
However, the director of the space agency has said that before this, they would be examining technologies in renewable life support and in-orbit refuelling.

Xu Dazhe, general manager of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp, added to this statement by saying that making these technologies perfect is the bottom-line for a planned station.

First, China would be launching the Tiangong-2 space laboratory in roughly next two years. Mr. Xu also highlighted that one cargo "shuttle" and a multitude of manned spaceships would also be released to dock with the Tiangong-2 at different times.

China in Space Arena

China has become the third country to independently launch a human into space in 2003. Since then, it has been protracting its space endeavors. Last year in June, it achieved another feat as it carried out its first manual space docking. This is also a very significant step in constructing a space station.

This story was originally published on 2013-09-27.
2023 launch China China space station IAC Space Technology Top Story Sun, 26 Jan 2014 13:13:51 +0000 Neha Dutt 1701713609 at http://www.themoneytimes.com A Walk Through the Process of Applying for a Payday Online Loan http://www.themoneytimes.com/blogs/walk-through-process-applying-payday-online-loan.html

Payday loans have been receiving a lot of wrap lately and for a good reason - the financial charges on a typical cash advance are rocket high - up to $50 on each $100 borrowed. But while many states are rushing to the rescue of less than well-off citizens - this is the target population, arguably, that takes out payday loans, the basic market economy laws are telling us that payday loans can be beneficial in some cases. First, on the myths. According to the Payday Loan Industry Report, an average payday loan borrower's economic profile is far from what state legislators want us to believe:

"The estimates of income range from $20,000 to $50,000 for most borrowers. Some demographic studies indicate that nearly 50% of payday loan borrowers own their homes, and most have a high school education or more."

I am not trying to, in any way, rehabilitate payday loans: the facts are clear on the sky high interest rates charged by many lenders, as well as some shady practices that some lenders engage in: like taking money out someone's account as a result of shady marketing practices that make people click on certain offers they do not need or realize being signed up for. There are also various scams masked as payday loans in which personal information is being harvested and then used in identity theft and other fraudulent activities. At the same time, there are many people who take advantage of payday loans regularly to leverage their personal finances. The most important problem is how to educate people about payday loans. Questions like: "Can I afford a payday loan?", "Why do I need a payday loan?" must be answered before applying for a cash advance. After that, the place where to find the loan that best suites one's financial conditions has to be decided on. Let's focus on this second part.

It is clear that applying online can be very convenient - you do not need to run to a cash advance store, you can have your money directly transferred to your checking account overnight and you can pay off your loan conveniently online as well. But, which online loans are the best and where to avail them?

There are a few things that everyone has to be aware of when looking for a payday loan. These are: the amount, loan term, and loan cost. You have to be comfortable with the amount, loan repayment term and the financial charges. The repayment schedule is another thing to take into account. What we at Payless Payday Loans keep hearing is that people want to take out $1000 in payday funds. Well, you should stop right there before even going any further. You should not take out a $1000 payday loan because it goes against the very purpose of payday loans. These loans are not for plugging in every hole in your budget, they are for emergencies. And if you have an emergency that needs a $1000, you need to look elsewhere. The financial charges on a $1000 payday advance may amount to about $500. So, unless you can find a cheaper loan, just forget it all. It is possible to find a cheaper loan and it is also possible to find several cheaper payday loans if you need a larger amount. Taking time and applying is necessary to keep the costs down.

It is a good idea to go with direct payday lenders - you can see these payday loan lenders and choose direct trusted providers. You can apply to several lenders and see what they can offer in your case. You should pay attention to the terms and costs of each loan and accept it only if it won't entrap you in a debt cycle spiraling out of control. The term can be just two weeks or several months - an installment loan. Many direct lenders also offer an early repayment option so you can repay the entire loan early and save on interest charges. The cost of the loan may be high and the loanable amount low if you are a first time borrower. Thus, it makes sense to build a relationship with a lender over time which will ultimately allow you to borrow more and at lower rates. Finally, it must be said that there are no simple solutions when it comes to payday online loans, but the best piece of advice is to actually take time, compare different lenders and their offers and go with the ones that you can afford and repay on time without taking out yet another loan and falling into a debt trap.

This story was originally published on 07/03/2012.
installment loan payday loans Payday Online Loan personal finances Top Story Fri, 24 Jan 2014 09:19:02 +0000 1701711585 at http://www.themoneytimes.com Personal Finance: Best 10 Ways To Earn Money On The Internet http://www.themoneytimes.com/featured/20140124/personal-finance-best-10-ways-earn-money-internet.html

With the foray of internet, about 80% of the world’s population seem to use it to earn money. The student has developed the low cost printing device by name, Deltaprintr.

Schechter said that though their college had a 3D printer that was a laser and powder based, it required them to spend US $500 for purchasing a bucket of powder that can offer just one or two prints. Schechter also added that the 3D printer at college was seldom used as it was so expensive and many classes were not offered in the curriculum.

He then sought the advice of his sculpture professor on developing a new 3D printer that can be built with plastic and also had good help from his three friends. Along with his business partners, Schechter launched a campaign to kick-start the awareness about low cost printer and its innovative design to the masses. The Deltaprintr by Schechter costs just US $475 for un-assembled ones and US $685 for assembled type, which is a larger one. This is way too low when compared to the price of brand new Makerbot 3D printer that costs US $2000.

Reports of Mashable state that the extra large (2.5 feet) version of Deltaprintr is equipped with a dual printing ability, has a diameter of 2 inches and height of 6 inches more and is available at the rate of US $705.
Schechter’s Deltaprintr makes use of three stepper motors that are placed under the platform made of acrylic where the printing is performed. These motors can control the carriages by moving the hot end and this allows it to create the 3D printing of various objects.

As the design of this innovative printer by Schechter consists of very less parts, its customers can save a lot of money as there would be no need to spend on spare replacement. The developer of Deltaprintr also added that while MakerBot makes use of belts in order to move the print head, his 3D printer uses fishing line. This allows the user to expand it to make it a bit taller by changing the rods made of aluminum. This makes it more accurate and faster than MakerBot.

This story was originally published on 27/12/2013.
3D printer affordable Deltaprintr Gadgets Gadgets Shai Schechter Top Story United States US College Student Wed, 22 Jan 2014 05:36:44 +0000 dhivya 1701713769 at http://www.themoneytimes.com Twitter does not require internet anymore! http://www.themoneytimes.com/featured/20140121/twitter-does-not-require-internet-anymore-id-1701713741.html

Online microblogging service, Twitter, could soon be accessible on your mobile phone even if you do not have an active data plan.
