Washington -- Barack Obama Wednesday taped his first appearance on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" since becoming president of the United States.
Obama was interviewed for the show four times before he was elected commander-in-chief in 2008, however.
Wednesday's appearance was scheduled during the series' week-long trip to Washington to provide viewers with "Indecision 2010" coverage of the midterm elections, Comedy Central said.
Show producers said this is the first time an episode has consisted of a single guest interview.
"Are we the people we were waiting for, or does it turn out those people are still out there -- and we don't have their number?" Stewart queried the president.

Washington -- U.S. President Barack Obama spent part of a drizzly Sunday playing a little basketball with his daughters Sasha and Malia.
The hour-plus outing to a nearby court in the Interior Department building was off-limits to the media but back at the White House when a reporter asked how his daughters had done, Obama replied Sasha and Malia "did good." Asked if they beat him, the president said "always."
It appeared a couple of other young women joined the Obamas on the outing.

Washington -- The U.S. trade deficit grew higher than expected in June, reaching $49.9 billion with exports falling by $2.3 billion, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said.
President Barack Obama set a goal in his State of the Union address in January to double U.S. exports within 5 years. Wednesday's report is a clear indication that such a goal has hurdles to overcome.
The bureau said the exports declined in capital goods by $1.4 billion, industrial supplies, down $1 billion, and foods, feeds and beverages, down by $300 million.
Exports of consumer goods and vehicles increased.
