Dublin -- Ireland's future grew murkier Monday after a faction of the coalition government called for a general election early next year due to the financial crisis.
Ireland accepted international assistance Sunday and is negotiating details of a loan that could be $110 billion to $130 billion, The New York Times reported.
The loan was made necessary by sour loans that threaten the stability of the country's largest banks.
In a statement Monday, the Green Party, a significant portion of the coalition government, which is led by the Fianna Fail Party, called for "a general election in the second half of January 2011."

Washington-- Sen. John Thune, R-S.D. said disaffected U.S. voters could form a splinter group after the midterm elections if Republicans let them down.
"I will say this: If we do not govern according to our principles and if we don't follow through on the things we say we're going to do, I think there will be a third party in this country," he said on C-Span's "Newsmakers" program.
"If we don't govern accordingly, I think you're going to see a third party in this country," he said in the taped television interview reported by The Hill
Thune said the Tea Party could be the foundation of a third party, as the group, he said, did not want to align themselves directly with the GOP.

Chicago -- The man renting the Chicago home of White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel says he has no plans to move before his lease runs out.
If Emanuel decides to leave Washington and run for mayor of Chicago, it appears he won't be returning to his North Side home, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.
Robert "Bob" P. Halpin, 59, said he just signed a new lease Sept. 1, six days before Chicago Mayor Richard Daley announced he would not seek reelection. He did not say how long the new lease was for.
Halpin told Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed his lease forbids him to talk to the media about Emanuel's home.
"But I can tell you I have no plans to move," he said.
