London -- Simon Cowell says his fellow British television personality Cheryl Cole is recovering well after being diagnosed last week with malaria.
Cole, 27, is a member of the music group Girls Aloud, as well as a judge on the talent competition series "The X Factor," alongside Cowell. She also recently toured as a solo act supporting the Black Eyed Peas.
She returned from a vacation in Tanzania with her friend, dancer Derek Hough, and canceled all of her work engagements last week after falling ill. Her representative later confirmed she had been diagnosed with malaria.
"I had a text from her yesterday," the BBC quoted Cowell as saying Tuesday. "She is on the mend and looking forward to coming back to work."

London -- TV personality Simon Cowell is to be honored at a ceremony in London with a special BAFTA award for his outstanding development of new talent, organizers said.
The 50-year-old music executive is a judge on "Britain's Got Talent" and, until last week, held the same position on "American Idol." He is also a judge on the U.K. show "The X Factor" and is working on a U.S. version for which he will be a judge and producer.
The BBC said Cowell will be presented with his special award at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts TV awards ceremony Sunday at the London Palladium.
John Willis, chair of Bafta's TV committee, said he was "delighted" to recognize "one of the most brilliant entertainment producers of our time," the BBC said.

Los Angeles -- A publicist for Simon Cowell says the "American Idol" judge is engaged to makeup artist Mezhgan Hussainy, whom he met on the set of the U.S. TV show.
Publicist Max Clifford said in a statement that Cowell, 50, and Hussainy, 35, are engaged after dating for nearly a year, Parade Magazine reported Friday.
"(Mezhgan) is someone who is independent and says what she thinks and feels, and he likes that," Clifford said. "He's probably the happiest I have ever known him in the nine years I've been working with him."
Parade said Hussainy, who met Cowell several years ago, has confirmed the engagement to the Web site RadarOnline.com.

London -- British TV personality Simon Cowell said Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher could potentially serve as his replacement on "American Idol."
Cowell, who plans on leaving "Idol" to start a U.S. version of the British TV series "The X Factor," said Gallagher, 42, would be a better fit as an "Idol" judge than someone like pop star Madonna, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.
"I know Noel quite well. I like him. He is very funny and a brilliant songwriter -- it's a possibility," Cowell said when asked about Gallagher's qualifications to join "Idol."
Cowell, 50, said the demands of working on the popular U.S. TV series are likely too much for a pop star like Madonna.
