Iowa city sees video games in its future

Ottumwa, Iowa -- Ottumwa, Iowa, once the home of the Coal Palace, hopes to build a future on an International Video Game Hall of Fame.

An actual building is still a few years and millions of dollars down the road, The Wall Street Journal reported. But this weekend, top gamers gathered in Ottumwa for Big Bang 2010, a festival of video games and celebration of Pac-Man's anniversary.

"We want to be the most complete archive of video-game history," Dan Canny, vice president of the Hall of Fame board, told the Journal. "Maybe we had no business stepping up and doing this, but we're doing it."

So far, the Hall of Fame has raised $75,000, with most of the money going for Big
Bang.

Zhu Zhu Pets video games on the way

Santa Monica, Calif. -- The U.S. companies Activision Publishing and GameMill Publishing say they are developing video games inspired by the Zhu Zhu Pets line of toy hamsters.

The first game to be released in collaboration with the toy maker Cepia LLC will be for the Nintendo DS game system. It is set for release in the spring.

"Zhu Zhu Pets's success in 2009 speaks for itself and we're confident it will be even bigger in 2010," David Oxford from Activision Publishing said in a statement Tuesday.

"It is our goal to expand this proven franchise in a way that fans of the wildly popular hamster toy line and video gamers alike will embrace and love to play," added Gary Miller, president of GameMill Publishing.

New York, November 13 -- Recessionary trends seem to be receding for the video game industry, at least early recording breaking sales by Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (MW) 2 depict recovery.
