NASA creates Web site for teenagers

Washington -- The U.S. space agency says it has started a Web site that provides teenagers access to current NASA spacecraft data for use in school science projects.

Officials said the Web site -- Mission:Science -- also allows the students to conduct real experiments with NASA scientists, and helps them locate space-related summer internships.

NASA lists advisory council restructuring

Washington -- U.S. space agency Administrator Charles Bolden says he has added four new committees to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Advisory Council.

Bolden said the new committees are in key areas of importance to NASA's future: Commercial Space, Education and Public Outreach, Information Technology Infrastructure, and Technology Innovation.

NASA awards minority university grants

Washington -- The U.S. space agency says it has awarded grants to five minority institutions to develop innovative science, technology, engineering and math programs.

The project, officials said, is designed to enhance students' academic experiences and encourage underserved and underrepresented groups to pursue careers that are critical to NASA's missions.

The grants were awarded to the Navajo Technical College, the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, New Mexico State University, the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Sistema Universitario in Puerto Rico NASA said the funding ranges from $90,800 to $345,850 and is renewal for two years based on project performance and funding availability.
