Arlington, Texas -- Tommy Hunter tossed a five-hitter in his first start of the year Saturday, boosting the Texas Rangers to a 6-1 decision over Tampa Bay.
Hunter (1-0) didn't show any signs of rust while returning from an oblique muscle strain that had sidelined him for the season's first two months. He came through with a 117-pitch complete game, stopping the Rays on one run while walking none and striking out four.
Josh Hamilton knocked a two-run homer in the first inning to give Texas a 3-0 lead. Elvis Andrus also doubled, tripled and drove in a pair to post the American League West-leading Rangers to their fourth win in five games.
James Shields (5-4) was rocked for six runs on 10 hits over seven innings for Tampa Bay.
