Woods shares lead in PGA Tour playoffs

Paramus-- Tiger Woods shot his lowest round of the year Thursday, three days after his divorce became final, and shared the lead after one round at The Barclays.

There were 31 players within three shots of the top spot in the first of the PGA Tour's four playoff tournaments that will determine the winner of the FedEx Cup and the $10 million that goes with it.

Woods, the first player off the first tee at the Ridgewood Country Club, shot a 6-under 65 to tie Vaughn Taylor for first place. It was the 34th competitive round of the year for Woods and his best score by two strokes. He had not broken 70 in his previous 11 rounds.

Tiger Woods shoots 65 at The Barclays

Paramus -- U.S. golfer Tiger Woods shot his best round of the year Thursday at The Barclays in New Jersey, three days after his divorce from Elin Nordegren was finalized.

Woods shot a 6-under 65 Thursday in his first round at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, sharing the lead with Ryan Palmer and Vaughn Taylor, the North Jersey Record reported.

When asked if this was his best round of the year, Woods answered, "Absolutely."
"It's exciting to hit the ball flush like this. It's something I've been missing all year," Woods said.

Woods has struggled on the course this season, entering nine tournaments and winning none of them.

Tiger Woods's wife taking 'impulse' class

Winter Park, Fla. -- Elin Nordegren, wife of pro golfer Tiger Woods, has enrolled in a Florida college summer psychology course on "human abnormal behavior," a school official says.

Among the topics covered by the class at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., will be sexual disorder, addiction and impulse disorders, TMZ reported Friday.

"She is a student in our evening program at Rollins," school spokeswoman Ann Marie Varga told E! News.

"The evening program offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, but she is an undergraduate student."

Woods announced in December 2009 he would take an indefinite leave from professional golf to focus on his marriage after admitting to numerous extramarital affairs.

Poll: Most say Tiger's apology was sincere

Flemington, N.J. -- Sixty percent of U.S. viewers who participated in a poll Friday said they thought disgraced pro golfer Tiger Woods' televised apology was sincere.

The media study among 1,090 people nationwide was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com Web site to obtain viewer perceptions of statements by Woods during Friday's news conference regarding his extramarital affairs.

Viewers were split, however, on whether Woods' statements changed their perception of him, with 52 percent reporting their perception of him had not changed; 31 percent indicating their perception had changed in a positive way; and 17 percent indicating their perception of him had changed in a negative way.

Woods' wife used golf club to free him

Orlando -- Tiger Woods' wife smashed open the window of his crashed SUV with a golf club and dragged him out of the car before police arrived, a Florida official says.

Windermere, Fla., Mayor Gary Bruhn said police arriving at the scene of an early Friday accident -- in which the world's No. 1 golfer allegedly drove his Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant and his neighbor's tree -- found Woods unconscious on the ground, bleeding from his lips, with his frantic wife Elin Nordegren Woods hovering over him, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Woods and Kim share A&T National lead

Bethesda, Md. -- Tiger Woods had an even-par 70 Saturday and dropped back into a tie with Anthony Kim after three rounds of the PGA's AT&T National in Maryland.

Kim, the defending champion, shot a 2-under 68 to join Woods at 10-under 200. The two matched the tournament's 54-hole scoring record, which Tom Pernice Jr. set last year.

Michael Allen, who won the Senior PGA Championship in June, turned in the best round of the day -- a 5-under 65 -- to move into a share of third place at 211 with Cameron Beckman (66).

Woods will be seeking his 68th PGA Tour victory Sunday at Congressional.

Kim will after his third tour title and first since last year in this tournament.
