Pinch-hitter Ryan Church then chipped in with another run-scoring hit to pace Arizona to a win in the first of a four-game set at Miller Park.

Sam Demel (1-0) collected his first major league victory and Aaron Heilman notched his sixth save despite allowing three singles in the bottom of the 10th.

Moyer (11-9), who complained about being removed from the starting rotation when he was replaced by Pedro Martinez, took over in long relief of Martinez Tuesday. He allowed only two hits and did not issue a walk.

Martinez started and allowed one run on two hits over three innings, but was lifted after a 66-minute rain delay.

The Diamondbacks swept the three-game series and have won five in a row.

Arizona rallied from a three-run deficit in the late innings, then outlasted the Pirates despite wasting scoring chances in the 10th and 11th. The Diamondbacks put their lead-off batter on in the 10th and had the bases loaded with just one away in the 11th without scoring.

Pittsburgh also had runners on first and second with nobody out in the 11th but failed to come up with the key hit that would have won the game.

Pittsburgh, Aug. 5: Stephen Drew put Arizona in front with a two-run single in the eighth Wednesday, helping the Diamondbacks rally to a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh.

The Pirates took a 3-1 lead into the eighth but Arizona jumped in front thanks in large part to a throwing error by Pittsburgh reliever Joel Hanrahan.

Hanrahan (1-4) came on with the bases empty and one out in the eighth and immediately walked Ryan Roberts, who had hit a solo homer in the sixth. Chad Tracy then bounced one back to Hanrahan, whose wild throw put runners on first and second.
