Mayfair, Martin head PGA qualifying field

Winter Garden, Fla. -- Billy Mayfair registered a 4-under-par 67 and grabbed a share of first place with Ben Martin Sunday after five rounds of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament.

Mayfair, 44, a five-time PGA event winner, played the back nine first. He birdied two of the first three holes to move to 14-under, then encountered trouble with a bogey on the 17th but bounced back to birdie No. 18.

He later racked up birdies on Nos. 6 and 8 and finished the day knotted with Martin at 16-under 341.

Martin used a birdie at No. 5 to retain a share of the lead at the qualifying event known as Q School, held at Orange County National Golf Center & Lodge.
