Bollywood actor Khan to film in Miami

Miami -- The upcoming filming in Miami of a new superhero movie starring Indian actor Shahrukh Khan represents a new trend in filmmaking, a film official says.

The Miami Herald said Saturday that Khan will portray a Miami software engineer who mistakenly creates a video-game villain in "Ra.One," the newest film production in South Florida stemming from the Indian film industry, commonly known as Bollywood.

Film coordinator Graham Winick said such international attention to South Florida comes after the region was known for serving as a secondary location to Hollywood productions.
"We used to joke that we were Hollywood East,'' the Miami Beach film official said. "Now we're Bollywood West."

Khan Denies U.S. detainment was a 'Publicity Stunt'

Bollywood legend ShahRukh Khan has hit back at reports his run-in with U.S. immigration officials was a publicity stunt for his latest movie My Name is Khan.

The Indian superstar was reportedly detained after he jetted into Newark Airport, New Jersey on Saturday (15Aug09).

Khan was allegedly frisked and kept waiting for hours in the airport while authorities checked his visas and reasons for visiting America.

After his release, Khan, who was in the U.S. as part of celebrations for India's Independence Day, hit out at the airport interrogation - insisting he was singled out because of his last name.

He told reporters, "(Khan) is a Muslim name and I think the name is common on their checklist."
