Phoenix, Sept. 24 (UPI): Juan Uribe hit a two-run homer Wednesday, San Francisco benefited from two unearned runs and the Giants defeated Arizona 5-2.
San Francisco remained tied with Atlanta for second place in the chase for the National League wild-card berth, four games behind Colorado.
The Giants had allowed 32 runs in their previous four games, but got a well-pitched contest Wednesday from starter Jonathan Sanchez and four relievers. Sanchez (7-12) allowed two runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings to get the win and Brian Wilson struck out the side in the ninth for his 36th save.
Uribe doubled home San Francisco's first run in the second and hit his homer in the sixth to give the Giants a 3-0 advantage.
