Doha, Qatar -- Samantha Stosur pulled off the first upset of the WTA Championships in Qatar with a straight-win Wednesday over world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.
Stosur, seeded fifth, didn't lose her serve in a 6-4, 6-3 win against Wozniacki in a Maroon Group match. The decision left Stosur 2-0 with one round-robin match left while Wozniacki is 1-1.
Francesca Schiavone and Elena Dementieva, who had Wednesday off, are both 0-1 in the group.
Stosur took the lead with a ninth-game service break in the first set and added another in the second set for a 3-1 lead. She saved all six of the break points she faced, the last coming in the final game before Stosur took the final three points for the match.

Beijing -- Fourth-seeded Samantha Stosur was among four upset victims Sunday in first-round play of the China Open tennis tournament in Beijing.
Anastasija Sevastova ousted Stosur 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 turning the match around from a first set dominated by Stosur.
Stosur won more points overall (104-100) in the match, but that was because she swept through the first set in losing only 21points. Sevastova began to solve Stosur's serve and forced 10 break-point situations, winning three of them, including two in the third set.

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Samantha Stosur and Elena Dementieva, the tourney's top two seeds, survived their second-round matches Wednesday at the Bank of the West Classic.
The top-seeded Stosur earned a quarterfinal berth by defeating Christina McHale 6-1, 7-5 and Dementieva won the day's last match with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision over Kimiko Date Krumm.
In the day's other matches, Agnieszka Radwanska got past Olga Savchuk 7-7 (7-4), 6-2 and Yanina Wickmayer was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Dominika Cibulkova.
In the quarterfinals, Stosur will face Wickmayer and Dementieva will meet either Maria Sharapova or Olga Govortsova.

England -- Samantha Stosur lost just one game after the first set Thursday in earning a semifinals berth at the Aegon International tournament in England.
Stosur, the tournament's No. 3 seed, won two-thirds of the points after the first set in a 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-0 victory over Elena Baltacha. Stosur didn't lose her serve and had 15 aces in the match.
After losing the first-set tie-breaker, she lost four points over three service games in the second set and allowed Baltacha just six points on serve in the third.
Eighth-seeded Marion Bartoli, the only other seeded player left in the field, was pushed to three sets over nearly 3 hours before she got past Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Eastbourne, England -- Third-seeded Samantha Stosur advanced in the Aegon International in England with a straight-set victory Monday.
Stosur topped Melanie Oudin 6-4, 6-4 in a brisk 76 minutes to win the first-round match. Stosur had 10 aces but also eight double faults, she had twice as many service breaks (4-2) as Stosur, however.
No. 8-seeded Marion Bartoli, the only other seeded player on the women's schedule Monday, topped Vera Dushevina 6-4, 7-5 behind four breaks of serve.

Paris -- Samantha Stosur rallied for a three-set win Monday, earning a French Open quarterfinals berth against world No. 1 Serena Williams.
Stosur, the tournament's No. 7 seed, topped 22nd-seeded Justine Henin 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 in a fourth-round match Monday. Henin hadn't lost a match at Roland Garros since the second-round of the 2004 French Open. She won the event in 2005-07 and missed the last two years during a retirement.
She looked to extend her 24-match winning streak with a solid first set Monday, facing only one break point in taking the lead. But Stosur quickly answered with a pair of breaks in the second set and cashed in two more service breaks in the third. Stosur had 26 winners while Henin managed just 14.

Daytona -- Samantha Stosur re-entered the world women's tennis Top 10 Monday following her victory at the WTA's Family Circle Cup in South Carolina.
Stosur rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Vera Zvonareva in Sunday's title final in earning her second WTA championship and a return to the No. 10 spot in the world rankings.
She had been knocked to No. 11 two weeks ago by the rapid ascendancy of Kim Clijsters but regained the No. 10 ranking by 85 points after the win in Charleston, S.C.
The rest of the world women's Top 10 remained the same as last week with Serena Williams, who announced a return to play in next month's Italian Masters, holding the top spot. Williams had been idled by a knee injury.

Moscow -- No. 8 Francesca Schiavone, the only seed left, trounced Alona Bondarenko 6-4, 6-0 Saturday in one semifinal at the Kremlin Cup tennis tournament at Moscow.
The Italian asserted herself after Bondarenko played a close first set, and reached the final a second week in a row. Australia's Samantha Stosur beat her 7-5, 6-1 at last Sunday's Japan Open final.
"My tennis wasn't perfect today, but it was very good," said Schiavone, who secured her victory by winning the match's last seven games. "I was aggressive at the right times and took my chances."
Olga Govortsova of Belarus was Saturday's other winner, pounding Russia's Alisa Kleybanova 6-2, 6-1.

Los Angeles, Aug. 8: Maria Sharapova fought off Urszula Radwanska Friday to reach the semifinals of the Los Angeles Women's Open.
Sharapova will try to earn her first trip to a tournament final when she meets either Flavia Pennetta or Vera Zvonareva in Saturday's semifinal.
Samantha Stosur continued her recent outstanding play by getting past Jie Zheng 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Stosur defeated Serena Williams last week at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford.
Stosur's semifinal opponent will be Sorana Cirstea, who defeated Agnieszka Radwanska 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 7-5.

Los Angeles, Aug. 7: Zheng Jie pulled off one of the most significant wins of her career Thursday, upsetting world No. 1 Dinara Safina in the third round of the Los Angeles Open.
Zheng, a semifinalist at Wimbledon last year, won the final four games of the third set to defeat Safina 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Safina earned a service break to take a 4-2 lead in the final set.
In the quarterfinals, Zheng will take on Samantha Stosur, who recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over sixth-seeded Ana Ivanovic. Stosur surprised Serena Williams last week in Stanford before losing in the quarterfinals.
No. 2 seed Vera Zvonareva survived an upset bid when she got past Yanina Wickmayer 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-4.
Zvonareva will face Flavia Pennetta, who was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Nadia Petrova.

Standford, Calif. Aug. 1: Samantha Stosur stunned top-seeded Serena Williams in three sets at the Bank of the West Championship Friday.
The result prevented a potential title match-up between Williams and her sister, Venus.
Venus Williams, the second seed, won as expected later in the evening with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Maria Sharapova.
Stosur pulled off a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 upset that moved her into the semifinals for a meeting with Marion Bartoli.
Bartoli also pulled off a surprise by defeating fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
Venus Williams will meet Elena Dementieva after beating Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-4.

Stanford, Calif. July 30: Samantha Stosur set up a possible quarterfinal meeting with Serena Williams Wednesday by defeating Monica Niculescu at the Bank of the West Classic.
Stosur won her second-round match 6-1, 7-5 and will meet Williams in the quarterfinals if Williams can get past Melinda Czink in their second-round match Thursday.
Third-seeded Elena Dementieva reached the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Anna Chakvetadze. Dementieva will meet the winner of the match between Agnieszka Radwanska and Daniela Hantuchova.
In the other contests Wednesday, Maria Sharapova was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over fifth-seeded Nadia Petrova and Melanie Oudin completed the first round by defeating Hilary Barte 6-2, 6-1.
