Los Angeles -- U.S. actress Rue McClanahan has died at the age of 76, Variety reported Thursday.

No other details regarding her death were immediately available.

McClanahan is best known for her work on the television comedies "Maude," "Mama's Family" and "The Golden Girls."

Rue McClanahan suffers minor stroke

Los Angeles -- Rue McClanahan's publicist says the U.S. television actress has suffered a minor stroke following heart bypass surgery, E! News reported Thursday.

McClanahan, 75, is best known for her work on the TV comedy "The Golden Girls."

Her representative told E! McClanahan underwent heart surgery in November and then spent two weeks in a hospital intensive care unit after doctors successfully removed a blood clot from her brain.

The actress is in physical therapy and expected to be discharged from the hospital by the end of the month, the publicist said.

Rue McClanahan undergoes heart surgery

New York -- Television actress Rue McClanahan's publicist said she is doing "great" after undergoing heart bypass surgery in New York.

McClanahan, 76, is best known for her roles on the TV comedies "Maude," "Mama's Family" and "The Golden Girls."

"She is doing absolutely great," her representative told "Access Hollywood" Friday. "She went for her physical the other day and her doctor didn't like what he found. As Rue put it, she needed 'a little work on her ticker.' She was in great spirits when she went in for surgery yesterday. She's resting in a hospital in New York and she'll probably be out in a week."
