MLB: Philadelphia 6, San Francisco 1

Philadelphia -- Roy Oswalt held San Francisco to one run over eight innings Sunday, keying the Philadelphia Phillies' 6-1 win that evened the 2010 NLCS at one win apiece.

Oswalt (1-0) dominated the Giants, allowing only three hits and three walks while striking out nine. He also contributed a base hit and scored from second base on Placido Polanco's seventh-inning single.

The veteran hurler showed few signs of rust while making his first start in 10 days, dispatching San Francisco on 111 pitches, 71 of them for strikes. He raised his lifetime record at Citizens Bank Park to 10-0 with the win.

MLB: Philadelphia 5, Los Angeles 1

Los Angeles -- Roy Oswalt hurled six-plus innings of one-hit ball and Philadelphia backed him with 10 hits Wednesday in the Phillies' 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Oswalt (10-13) survived a wild streak, holding the Dodgers scoreless over 6 1/3 innings despite surrendering six walks. He also fanned six in posting his sixth straight start without a loss for the Phillies, who came into the game trailing the first-place Atlanta Braves by three games in the National League East.

Jimmy Rollins led off the game with a homer and Shane Victorino added a solo shot in the second for the Phils, who took their fifth win in six games.

With the win, the Phillies took a two-game lead over second-place San Francisco in the NL wild-card chase.

MLB: Philadelphia 2, Los Angeles Dodgers 0

Philadelphia -- Roy Oswalt teamed with two relievers on a six-hit shutout Wednesday, lifting the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was the third start for Oswalt (7-13) since the Phillies acquired him in a trade with Houston and it was his first win for his new team. He gave up five hits, walked two and struck out five over seven innings, helping the Phillies win for the seventh time in nine games.

Philadelphia remained 2 1/2 games behind division-leading Atlanta in the National League East.

Ryan Madson and Brad Lidge each worked an inning of relief, with Lidge striking out two in a perfect ninth to pick up his 15th save.

Phillies obtain Oswalt from Houston

Philadelphia -- The Philadelphia Phillies obtained pitcher Roy Oswalt from the Houston Astros Thursday in exchange for three players and cash considerations.

Oswalt, who has spent his entire 10-year career with the Astros, will make his first start for Philadelphia Friday in Washington.

The Phillies sent pitcher J.A. Happ to Houston along with two prospects -- outfielder Anthony Gose and infielder Jonathan Villar.

Oswalt has close to $5 million remaining on his 2010 contract and is due to make $16 million next season. There is also a mutual option in his contract for 2012 that will bring him $16 million if he plays for the Phillies or a buyout of $2 million.

MLB: Houston 2, Pittsburgh 0

Houston -- Roy Oswalt pitched a 1-hitter Thursday and Lance Berkman hit two home runs in a 2-0 Houston Astros win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Oswalt (6-10) walked two and struck out eight. The only hit he surrendered was a two-out, first-inning single to Neil Walker.

Oswalt retired 12 consecutive batters in one stretch and only one Pirate got as far as second base. That was in the sixth inning when Andrew McCutchen walked and was sent to second on a balk call. Only one other Pittsburgh player reached base the rest of the way.

Pittsburgh starter Ross Ohlendorf (1-7) allowed seven hits, including both of Berkman's home runs, and one walk over seven innings.

MLB: Houston 4, Kansas City 2

Kansas City, Mo. -- Roy Oswalt cooled off Kansas City with a seven-inning effort Wednesday and the Houston Astros ended a four-game skid with a 4-2 win over the Royals.

The Astros had lost their previous seven games against American League teams.

Oswalt (5-8) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven to win his second straight start. The Kansas City bats were quieted one night after the Royals had scored a season-high 15 runs on 20 hits against the Astros.

Brandon Lyon worked the eighth and Matt Lindstrom pitched the ninth for his 15th save. Both Lyon and Lindstrom benefited from a double play.

Kansas City had a 2-1 lead through three innings but Jason Michaels singled in two runs in the fourth and doubled home another in the sixth.

MLB: Houston 5, Milwaukee 0

Milwaukee -- Roy Oswalt won for the first time in a month Wednesday, striking out a season-best nine and leading the Houston Astros to a 5-0 victory over Milwaukee.

Oswalt (3-6) gave up four hits over eight innings, sending Houston to its first win in four tries. He had not recorded a victory since April 23.

Carlos Lee drove in the first run with an infield single in the opening inning and he added an RBI base hit in a two-run third. Hunter Pence scored twice.
Chris Narveson (4-2) was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs on eight hits in four innings.

The Brewers had won their previous two games.

MLB: Atlanta 9, Houston 7

Houston, Sept. 10: Garret Anderson drove in a run in three different at bats Thursday and Atlanta battered starter Roy Oswalt to defeat Houston 9-7.

Oswalt (8-6) has recently suffered from a sore back and lasted only two innings while the Braves scored six runs on 10 hits. Of the six men Oswalt retired, five struck out.

Atlanta took a 6-1 lead through two innings and held on, thanks to a 16-hit attack.

Anderson had a sacrifice fly in the first and RBI singles in the second and fourth. Brian McCann added two RBI, one with a double in the second and another with a single in the fifth.

Derek Lowe (14-9) benefited from the early offense to get the win. He gave up five runs on nine hits and threw 102 pitches in 5 2/3 innings.

MLB: Houston 1, Arizona 0

Houston, Aug. 21: Roy Oswalt allowed three hits over seven innings Friday and teamed with two relievers in a shutout, bringing Houston a 1-0 decision over Arizona.

The Diamondbacks opened a 10-game, four-city trip by losing their sixth in a row.

Oswalt (7-4) ended a steak of four straight no-decisions with a 100-pitch effort.

He struck out two and did not walk a batter.

He gave up singles to Trent Oeltjen and Alex Romero to start the third, but escaped that trouble and then allowed only one other hit through the seventh.

LaTroy Hawkins worked a perfect eighth and Jose Valverde survived a two-out single in the ninth to grab his 19th save.

MLB: Houston 11, Chicago Cubs 6

Chicago, July 28: Miguel Tejada had a home run and five RBI Tuesday to lead the Houston Astros to an 11-6 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Geoff Blum belted the go-ahead homer in the seventh, and Jeff Keppinger had four hits, three RBI and three runs for the Astros. Michael Bourn added three hits and three runs for Houston.

Houston's starting pitcher, Roy Oswalt, lasted just 1 2/3 innings before leaving with a lower back strain. Jeff Fulchino (4-3) gave up three runs in three innings, but got the win.

Aramis Ramirez hit a three-run homer for the Cubs, who lost for just the third time in 12 games.

MLB: Houston 8, Los Angeles Dodgers 1

Los Angeles, July 18: Miguel Tejada and Ivan Rodriguez hit solo homers as part of a 16-hit attack Friday, leading the Houston Astros to an 8-1 whipping of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Astros have won three in a row and moved into a second-place tie in the National League Central with Milwaukee and the Chicago Cubs -- three games behind St. Louis.

Houston took control by scoring four times in the first after two were out. After Tejada homered off Chad Billingsley (8-5), Carlos Lee and Geoff Blum singled and Hunter Pence doubled both runners home -- and then scored on a single by Rodriguez.

Blum doubled home two more runs in the second and Rodriguez delivered his homer in the third.

MLB: Minnesota 5, Houston 2

Minneapolis, June 19: Kevin Slowey limited Houston to a run over six innings Friday and reached 10 wins for the season in boosting Minnesota to a 5-2 decision over the Astros.

Slowey (10-2) gave up only three hits and struck out six. Going into Friday's games, Toronto's Roy Halladay had been the only pitcher in the majors with 10 victories. Chad Billingsley of the Los Angeles Dodgers was going for his 10th win Friday.

Joe Nathan recorded the last four outs for his 16th save.

Delmon Young had two doubles and two RBI for the Twins. He also robbed Lance Berkman of a home run in the ninth with a leaping catch.

In addition, Young scored on a squeeze bunt by Nick Punto in the fifth.

Minnesota won for the fifth time in seven games.
