Port of San Diego in economic storm

San Diego -- Industry observers said a new $28 million passenger terminal at the Port of San Diego would have to ride through tough times before the investment breaks even.

Concurrent with completion of the building with the jagged roof line that has received a local "Onion award" from the San Diego Architectural Foundation -- basically, a thumbs down -- the cruise line business is expected to draw half as many passengers in 2011 as it did in 2010 due to the economic downturn and violence in Mexico, The San Diego Union Tribune reported Saturday.

Train-hopping cat reunited with owner

Dublin, Ireland -- Transportation officials in Dublin, Ireland, said they found the owner of a cat that hitched a 10-mile ride on a local train.

Officials with Iarnoid Eireann, Ireland's national railway system operator, said the cat was found at Dublin's Pearse Street train station and a review of security footage determined the feline had boarded a Dublin Area Rapid Transit train in Malahide, RTE News, Dublin, reported Tuesday.

The rail company issued an appeal on its Twitter feed for the cat's owner to come forward and the animal was soon reunited with owner Eric Bieci.

Bieci thanked railway workers for helping reunite him with his pet.

911 caller sought ride to liquor store

St. Augustine, Fla. -- Police in Florida say a man who called 911 to ask for a ride to the liquor store wound up arrested for misuse of 911 and possession of marijuana.

The St. Augustine Police Department said George McMurrian, 57, called 911 twice Saturday from his room at the Budget Inn and asked for a ride to the liquor store, First Coast News reported Tuesday.

Officers visited McMurrian's room after the second call and told him he would be arrested if he continued to call 911 for non-emergencies.

Police said they returned to McMurrian's room after receiving a third call from the location and the caller hung up. Officers saw marijuana in his room and he was arrested on charges of misusing 911 and marijuana possession, police said.
