MLB: Detroit 5, Minnesota 1

Detroit -- Rick Porcello limited Minnesota to one run over eight innings Sunday and the Detroit Tigers completed a three-game sweep, downing the Twins 5-1.

Porcello (10-11) surrendered four hits, struck out five and walked one, allowing only a solo homer to Delmon Young in his effective outing. Porcello, who raised his record to 5-0 in his six starts, threw 69 strikes among his 108 pitches.

Ramon Santiago blasted a three-run homer and Miguel Cabrera contributed a two-run shot for the Tigers in their final home game of the year. Detroit ended with a stellar 52-29 record at Comerica Park.

MLB: Detroit 7, Toronto 2

Detriot, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Rick Porcello gave up two runs and just four hits in six innings Sunday, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 7-2 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Porcello (13-8) struck out only two batters in his 103 pitches, but averted the big inning by throwing 13 first-pitch strikes to the 24 hitters he faced.
Brandon Inge and Gerald Laird led Detroit with two hits and two RBI apiece.
Three others had one RBI.

Magglio Ordonez had three hits and Miguel Cabrera two for the Tigers, whom have won nine of their last 11 contests against the Blue Jays.

Toronto got one RBI each from Aaron Hill and Edwin Encarnacion.

Five batters had one hit for the Blue Jays, whose three-game winning streak ended.

MLB: Kansas City 7, Detroit 5

Kansas City, Mo. Sept. 8: Billy Butler drove in the game-tying run and Mike Jacobs drove in the game-winner Tuesday in the Kansas City Royals' 7-5 win over Detroit.

The Royals scored five unanswered runs to end Detroit's six-game winning streak.
Butler had two RBI for the Royals and Jacobs had two hits, an RBI and a run scored in the win.

Bruce Chen gave up five runs, seven hits and four walks through 4 2/3 innings.
Yasuhiko Yabuta (1-1) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless frames to earn the win, and Joakim Soria earned his 23rd save of the season.

Ryan Raburn was 3-for-4 with a homer for the Tigers, who maintained their 6 1/2 game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central. Marcus Thames and Aubrey Huff each drove in two of runs in defeat.

MLB: Boston 7, Detroit 5

Boston, Aug. 12: Mike Lowell homered twice and drove in three runs Tuesday and the Boston Red Sox beat Detroit 7-5 in a game marred by a bench-clearing melee.

Jason Bay hit a three-run homer for the Red Sox, who have taken the first two games of a four game set at home after losing six straight.

Lowell was in the game as a replacement for Kevin Youkilis, who was ejected for igniting the brawl.

Junichi Tazawa (1-1), making his first major league start, gave up three runs on four hits in five innings, with two walks and six strikeouts to get the win for Boston.

Curtis Granderson had a two-run home run and the Tigers got an RBI apiece from Brandon Inge, Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen in their third loss in four games.

MLB: Chicago White Sox 5, Detroit 1

Detroit, July 26: Paul Konerko hit a two-run homer and Clayton Richard pitched eight innings of one-run ball Sunday to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 5-1 win over Detroit.

The White Sox scored four times in the first inning, getting two runs on a fielder's choice ground ball by Jim Thome and a throwing error by Adam Everett, and then adding two more when Konerko drove in Thome.

Gordon Beckham capped the scoring for Chicago with a second-inning solo home run and Richard (4-3) made the lead stand up, scattering five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Tony Pena pitched a perfect ninth in a non-save situation.

The White Sox avoided a four-game sweep in Detroit and finished the weekend two games behind the first-place Tigers in the AL Central Division.

MLB: Detroit 9, Seattle 7

Detroit, July 21: Magglio Ordonez hit a grand slam homer in Detroit's five-run first inning Tuesday and the Tigers went on to a 9-7 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Placido Polanco had a homer and two RBI, and Ryan Raburn also drove in two runs for the Tigers. Miguel Cabrera added three hits with a solo home run.

Rick Porcello (9-6) got the win despite giving up five runs and nine hits in five innings. Fernando Rodney earned his 20th save.

Jack Hannahan had two home runs, Ryan Langerhans a two-run homer, and Wladimir Balentien a homer and two RBI for the Mariners.

Garrett Olson (3-4) was charged with the defeat after allowing seven runs and five hits in 1 1/3 innings.

MLB: Detroit 3, Pittsburgh 1

Pittsburgh, June 12: Starter Rick Porcello had two hits and two RBI Friday while leading the Detroit Tigers to a 3-1 inter-league win over Pittsburgh.

Porcello (7-4) gave up a run and six hits in six innings, and hit RBI singles in the top of the second and sixth innings. Brandon Inge hit a solo eighth-inning homer and Placido Polanco went 4-for-4 for the Tigers, who have won three of four.

The win helped the Tigers maintain their four-game AL Central Division lead over Minnesota, a 7-4 winner over the Chicago Cubs Friday.

Closer Fernando Rodney earned his 12th save.

Pittsburgh's run scored on a sixth-inning double by Freddy Sanchez. Jason Jaramillo had two of the eight hits for the Pirates, who have split their last four games.
