Reed Point, Mont. -- Participants and officials with the 2010 Great Montana Sheep Drive said the running of the sheep was marred by rain and directionally-challenged sheep.
Announcer Diana Hahn, who has participated in the event since the first sheep run 22 years ago, said Sunday's event had more rain than any previous year and the 350 sheep scheduled to run down the town's main street instead turned tail and ran out of the city, The Billings (Mont.) Gazette reported Monday.
"There were people standing in the middle of the street," Hahn said. "The sheep are just very confused today for some reason, and I don't understand why."
However, despite the confused sheep, some of those attending Sunday's event said they were not disappointed.

Montreal -- A second consecutive day of rainy weather forced another postponement of the Rogers Cup in Montreal Sunday.
Both semifinals and the finals of the women's tennis tourney were set for Sunday after rain on Saturday disrupted the proceedings. But more rain changed those plans.
The first semifinal between Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and Svetlana Kuznetsova -- in which Wozniacki had posted a 2-0 lead in the first set before it was delayed -- was pushed back to 10 a.m. Monday.
The other semifinal between eighth-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva and 10th-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus will get under way simultaneously at National Bank Court.
The final is now slated for 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Pasadena, Calif. -- NASA says new images from its Jason-2 oceanography satellite shows the tropical Pacific has switched from El Nino warm conditions to La Nina cool conditions.
"The central equatorial Pacific Ocean could stay colder than normal into summer and beyond," said oceanographer and climatologist Bill Patzert at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. "That's because sea level is already about 4 inches below normal, creating a significant deficit of the heat stored in the upper ocean. The next few months will reveal if the current cooling trend will eventually evolve into a long-lasting La Nina situation."

New York -- "Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway" is to play a limited 11-week engagement this fall at New York's Neil Simon Theatre, the show's producers said.
Previews are to begin Oct. 19, with the official opening scheduled for Oct. 26. The engagement is to run through Jan. 2, 2011.
"'Rain' performs the full range of The Beatles' discography live onstage, including the most complex and challenging songs that The Beatles themselves recorded in the studio but never performed for an audience," producers said in a press release Tuesday. "From the early days of their appearance on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' in 1964 through 'Sgt. Pepper' and on to the Abbey Road years, 'Rain' performs it all."

Concord, N.C. -- Heavy and persistent rain Friday wiped out qualifying for Saturday's Sprint Cup All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The starting lineup for the race was determined by the order of the qualifying draw, and that put Kurt Busch on the pole. Joey Logano will start on the outside of the first row.
No championship points are awarded for the annual All-Star race, but the winner will receive $1 million.
"It feels great," Busch said. "It puts us that much closer to a million dollars. Just to have track position early on in the race and to get a good feel for how the car will handle out front is something I'm excited about it."
Brad Keselowski will start third, followed by Jamie McMurray and Kyle Busch.

Fort Worth, Texas -- Rain and fog forced the postponement of Sunday's Samsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup race in Fort Worth, Texas.
NASCAR officials said the race has been rescheduled for noon Monday at Texas Motor Speedway. The announcement was made after officials first delayed the event 90 minutes past its scheduled 2 p.m. start time.
Persistent rain and foggy conditions ended up washing away all track activities.
Also postponed was the O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 Nationwide event, which had been scheduled for Sunday evening after the Sprint Cup race. It had been bumped to Sunday after initially being washed out Saturday.
The O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 will be run at 5 p.m. Monday at Texas Motor Speedway.

Daytona Beach, Fla. -- Rain disrupted action at Daytona International Speedway in Florida Friday and delayed the NASCAR competitive debut of Danica Patrick.
Patrick was to have taken part in qualifying Friday for Saturday's Nationwide race. Instead, she was assigned the No. 15 starting position for her first NASCAR appearance.
Because qualifying was wiped out, the starting grid was determined by owner points from the 2009 season.
Patrick finished sixth in the ARCA race held at Daytona last weekend and, based on that showing, she decided to make her Nationwide debut this week.
