New York -- Cyber attackers brashly said they were aiming to disrupt, but not disable, U.S. company Web sites to protest recent treatment of Internet firm WikiLeaks.
"We do not want to steal your personal information or credit card numbers. We do not seek to attack critical infrastructure of companies such as MasterCard, Visa, PayPal or Amazon," said an online posting by a group called Anonymous, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.
"Our current goal is to raise awareness about WikiLeaks and the underhanded methods employed by the above companies to impair WikiLeaks' ability to function," the posting said.

Joliet, Ill. -- An Illinois roofers' union parked its inflatable rat outside of a Joliet church to protest the facility using non-union workers to do roof work.
The Rev. Matthew Robinson of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Joliet said members of the Local 11 roofers' union have been picketing in front of the church and placed a giant inflatable rat -- nicknamed Scabby -- in front of the facility, the Joliet Herald-News reported Friday.
"It's just ugly, and all people are seeing right now is a big yellow rat in front of our church," Robinson said. "Golly, we don't need that. That's not who we are."
Church members said the roof has been in need of work since it was damaged by a July fire caused by an electrical fire.

The protesters said up to 25 Forks High School students were suspended Tuesday while school administrators said it was closer to 10 or 12 -- an official count was unavailable Tuesday night -- after donning T-shirts bearing the punk rock band's name during the school day Tuesday, the Peninsula Daily News, Port Angeles, Wash., reported Wednesday.

"They got all this money from the federal government, and yet they won't give us a contract," said Gloria King, one of the workers picketing the hotel.

London -- Britain's proposed cap on immigration could damage the country's reputation for scientific excellence, a group of Nobel prize-winning scientists has warned.
Eight Nobel laureates, including two Russian immigrants who won the physics prize Tuesday, said visa restrictions would discourage promising students and distinguished scientists from sharing their expertise with British universities and industries, The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.
Professors Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov of the University of Manchester, who won the physics prize, might have been put off coming to Britain if an immigration cap had existed when they applied to come here, they claimed.

Fort Pierce, Fla. -- A Florida man who claims his phony $20 bills were a protest against President Andrew Jackson's treatment of Indians is going to prison.
Circuit Judge James McCann imposed an 18-month sentence Friday on Ronald Jensen, 53, of St. Lucie County, Treasure Coast Newspapers reported. Because Jensen has already spent 406 days in custody, he will spend a few months more behind bars.
In a 2009 raid, St. Lucie County sheriff's deputies said they found more than $1,800 in funny money in Jensen's apartment. He had a roll of bills sitting on the toilet and burned money in the toilet bowl.
