Broadcast singer Trish Keenan dies at 42

British singer Trish Keenan has died from pneumonia after becoming ill with the swine flu virus while touring in Australia, according to multiple tabloid reports. She was 42.

Hall of Famer Bob Feller hospitalized

Cleveland -- Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller, who is battling leukemia, has been hospitalized with pneumonia, the Cleveland Indians said Monday.

Feller, 92, has been receiving treatment at the Cleveland Clinic, Indians spokesman Bob DiBiasio told MLB.com.

DiBiasio said the former Indians great is getting stronger after coming down with a case of thrush -- an infection affecting the mucus membrane lining of the mouth and tongue.

Feller was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in August, when he received two quarts of blood and began receiving chemotherapy treatments.

He later had a pacemaker installed to treat a heart ailment.

Researchers hopeful on pneumonia vaccine

Leicester, England -- British and Irish scientists say they are close to developing a vaccine that would protect against 92 strains of the bacterium that causes pneumonia.

Dr. Aras Kadioglu of the University of Leicester and Dr. Ed Lavelle of Trinity College said the prospect is the result of their discovery that pneumolysin, a toxin produced by Streptococcus pneumoniae, triggers the human body to produce proteins that then protect against disease, The Daily Telegraph reported.

"This is a very exciting discovery and offers a whole new approach to protecting against the bacteria," Kadioglu said. "The holy grail would be to find a vaccine against all the strains."

Monjack died of anemia, pneumonia

Los Angeles -- Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Wednesday screenwriter Simon Monjack died of acute pneumonia and severe anemia in May.

Monjack, 40, was married to "Clueless" and "Sin City" actress Brittany Murphy, who died in December of similar causes, E! News reported.

In addition to the pneumonia and anemia, Murphy, 32, also suffered from multiple drug intoxication. Monjack did not, however, E! said.

Prednisolone not beneficial in pneumonia

Alkmaar -- A Netherlands-led team of scientists says it has determined prednisolone is not beneficial in most cases of community-acquired pneumonia.

The researchers, led by Dr. Dominic Snijders of the Alkmaar Medical Center, said patients with mild to moderate pneumonia should not be routinely prescribed prednisolone, a corticosteroid, because it is associated with a recurrence of symptoms after its withdrawal.

The scientists said their findings came from the first randomized double-blind clinical trial to address the subject.

Initial autopsy results were inconclusive and authorities said they would wait for toxicology tests to be conducted before determining how she died.
TMZ Thursday reported the coroner's office declared the cause of her death has been categorized as an accident.

The entertainment news Web site also said in the report released Thursday,
authorities noted "drug intake" on the line that said "how injury occurred."

Charlie Sheen visits seriously ill wife Brooke Mueller

Los Angeles, January 21 -- Seriously sick Brooke Mueller Sheen, the estranged wife of Charlie Sheen, has pneumonia in both lungs and an infection in her kidneys, her mother told People Magazine.

Mueller was admitted to the intensive care unit at Sherman Oaks Hospital on Tuesday night with a 105-degree fever following oral surgery.

"Brooke is still in the hospital. She's doing OK but she's not doing great," Brooke’s lawyer Yale Galanter tells E! News. "We thought there was a possibility she was going to be released today, but she's not because she has developed pneumonia in her lungs."

Brooke’s mother Moira Fiore told People that her daughter has pneumonia in both lungs and her kidneys are filled with infection.

Nicole Richie down with pneumonia, responding well to treatment
