NFL: Pittsburgh 23, Cincinnati 7

Pittsburgh -- Troy Polamalu and LaMarr Woodley each ran interceptions back for touchdowns Sunday and the Pittsburgh Steelers rolled to a 23-7 win over Cincinnati.

Ben Roethlisberger piled up 258 yards on 21-of-33 passing, hooking up with Hines Ward on eight passes for 115 yards. But Pittsburgh's offense didn't record a touchdown and instead relied on its defense, which held the Bengals to just 190 total yards.

The Steelers (10-3) racked up a fourth straight victory and maintained their hold atop the AFC Central.

Carson Palmer yielded three interceptions -- including the Polomalu and Woodley touchdowns -- bringing his season total of pick-offs to 18. He tossed for 178 yards and a score on 20-of-32 attempts in the setback.

Steelers pick up punter Kapinos

Pittsburgh, Ore. -- The Pittsburgh Steelers Tuesday signed punter Jeremy Kapinos to replace Daniel Sepulveda, who is lost for the season with a knee injury.

Kapinos, 26, played in one game for Indianapolis this season after averaging 43.3 yards on 66 punts for Green Bay last year.

Sepulveda, also 26, was lost for the season Sunday when he hurt his right knee against Baltimore. The Post-Gazette reported he tore the anterior cruciate ligament.

Sepulveda missed the entire 2008 season after sustaining a similar injury in training camp.

Kapinos joins a Steelers club that sits atop the AFC North with a 9-3 record.

Knee injury sidelines Steelers punter

Pittsburgh -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will sign a punter this week to replace Daniel Sepulveda, who was lost for the season in Sunday's 13-10 victory over Baltimore.

Sepulveda tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while trying to make a tackle, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

The injury occurred in the second quarter during Lardarius Webb's 35-yard punt return. Sepulveda stayed in the game to hold for field goal and extra point tries by Shaun Suisham, who also punted the rest of the way.

Sepulveda hurt the same leg during training camp in 2008.

His injury was not the only one to trouble the Steelers Sunday.

Steelers boot kicker Reed

Pittsburgh -- The Pittsburgh Steelers cut kicker Jeff Reed Tuesday for missing a third of his field-goal attempts this season and replaced him with Shaun Suisham.

Reed, who had spent all nine of his NFL seasons with Pittsburgh, hit the waiver wire after missing seven of his 22 tries, including a 26-yarder Sunday against New England.

Suisham, who worked for Dallas and Washington last year, signed a one-year contract with the Steelers.

Reed, 28, had been named a franchise player by the Steelers and signed a one-year contract in the off-season after making 27-of-31 attempts last season. He made 79.1 percent (87 of 110) of his field goal attempts in the NFL and ranks second on the Steelers' all-time list with 919 career points.

Steelers' Aaron Smith has surgery

Pittsburgh -- Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith is out for at least several weeks after surgery to fix a partially torn triceps, Coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday.

But Smith, who had the procedure Monday, won't be placed on injured reserve in case he can return this season. Tomlin said the veteran lineman, who was hurt in the Steelers' game against Miami Sunday, will be sidelined for "an extended number of weeks."

"Aaron is a quality player, a veteran leader for us," the coach said. "If there is hope for his return then, of course, we are going to be hopeful for as long as we possibly can."

Smith has 15 tackles in six games this season. He played in five games in 2009 before a shoulder injury ended his season.

Roethlisberger suspension cut to 4 games

New York -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has officially had his NFL suspension reduced to four games, the league said Friday.

Roethlisberger, who could have missed as many as six games, will be eligible to practice and play after the team's Oct. 3 game against Baltimore. The quarterback has already participated in training camp and exhibitions.

The first game he'll be eligible for is Oct. 17 at home against Cleveland.

He was suspended in April for violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy. Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault at a Georgia nightclub but charges were never filed.

Troy Polamalu's hair insured for $1M

Pittsburgh -- Insurance company Lloyd's of London said it has awarded a $1 million policy for Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu's famous head of hair.

Polamalu, a spokesman for Head & Shoulders shampoo, will be protected from football-related hair incidents by the policy, which is being paid for by Head & Shoulders parent company Proctor & Gamble, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday.

The player is famous for his instantly recognizable locks, which reportedly haven't been cut in more than seven years.

Gibson, Worthington sign 3-year deals

Pittsburgh -- The Pittsburgh Steelers said Ohio State University graduates Thaddeus Gibson and Doug Worthington have each agreed to a 3-year contract with the team.

The Steelers said outside linebacker Gibson and defensive end Worthington are the first rookie draft choices to come to contract terms with the team, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Friday.

Gibson, the fourth-round pick, has been unable to practice with the Steelers since the three-day minicamp in April due to the NFL policy of requiring rookies to wait until graduation, which for Ohio State comes at the end of a quarter that extends into June.

Worthington, the seventh round draft pick, has already graduated from the school.

Randle El, who left the Steelers and signed with the Washington Redskins, agreed to a three-year deal with Pittsburgh, the NFL Network said Tuesday. He was released by the Redskins last week.

He has 348 catches, 4,214 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns over his eight-year NFL career. A quarterback in college at Indiana, Randle El has also thrown four touchdown passes.

Evanson tapped as new Steelers investor

Pittsburgh -- Paul Evanson, chairman, president and chief executive of Allegheny Energy, will be named as a new investor in the Pittsburgh Steelers, sources say.

Without naming its sources, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday that Evanson, formerly president of Florida Power & Light Co., part of one of the largest investor-owned electric utilities in the nation, would take an unknown percentage of the Super Bowl champion Steelers offered by majority owners Dan Rooney and his son, Art Rooney II.

It was not known if Evanson is coming in as a single investor or as head of an investment group comprised of other minority contributors.

Steelers, Titans set to open NFL season

Pittsburgh -- The defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers meet the Tennessee Titans Thursday to kick off the NFL's 90th season.

It will be the first of 256 regular-season games, the last of which will be played Jan. 3, 2010. The 11-game playoff schedule will conclude with the Super Bowl, to be contested Feb. 7 in Miami.

Tennessee won its first 10 games in 2008 and defeated Pittsburgh four days before Christmas. The Steelers, however, avoided the Titans in the playoffs and wound up winning a record sixth Super Bowl with a 27-23 victory over surprising NFC champion Arizona.

Steelers TE Heath Miller inks big deal

Pittsburgh -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed tight end Heath Miller to a six-year contract extension through the 2014 season.

No dollar figure was disclosed by the reigning Super Bowl champions, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said he would get $35.3 million in the next six years with a $12.5 million signing bonus.

Miller, 26, one of Pittsburgh's best blocking receivers, was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next March.

He set career highs in 2007 with 566 receiving yards after 47 receptions with seven touchdowns, and last season, he caught 48 passes for 514 yards, scoring three touchdowns.

In four NFL seasons, the 6-5, 256-pound Miller, a former all-American at the
