Vienna -- No. 7-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber won his first seven games Monday en route to a first-round victory at the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy tournament in Vienna.
Kohlschreiber handled Alejandro Falla 6-0, 6-3 in a brisk 55 minutes. He swept through the first set by taking 74 percent of the points. He didn't lose a game until Falla held serve in the match's eighth game.
Falla then collected his only break of the day but Kohlschreiber broke right back. He went ahead in the set with an eighth-game break and then served to finish the match.
Jan Hajek was even more efficient, taking out Pere Riba 6-0, 6-2 in 47 minutes. Hajek won 65 percent of the points in the match and lost only nine points in seven service games. He didn't face a break point.

Metz -- Philipp Kohlschreiber rolled to a quarterfinals upset victory Friday over No. 1-seeded Marin Cilic at the Moselle Open in France.
Kohlschreiber did not drop serve in the 6-4, 6-1 win. He dropped just five points on serve in the second set and 18 over the match in nine service games.
He'll go against No. 8-seeded Giles Simon, who claimed a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 win over Xavier Malisse, in the semifinals Saturday. Like Kohlschreiber, Malisse dominated the final set, losing only five points over four games in which he served.
No. 4-seeded Richard Gasquet advanced to the semifinals by winning a pair of tie-breakers, eliminated seventh-seeded Tommy Robredo 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5).

Toronto -- Rafael Nadal avoided an upset Friday by rallying from a set down to defeat Philipp Kohlschreiber and reach the semifinals of the Rogers Cup.
The top four seeds all made it to the semifinals of this ATP Masters event, a tournament that has the feel of a major championship with its star-studded field.
Nadal, who has lost just once in his last 35 matches, downed Kohlschreiber 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to set up a semifinal meeting with fourth-seeded Andy Murray. Nadal has defeated Kohlschreiber in each of their seven meetings.
Nadal has an 8-3 lifetime record against Murray, who advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over David Nalbandian.
Nalbandian had won his previous 11 matches, including a hard-court title in Washington last week.

Auckland -- No. 5-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber claimed an easy first-round victory Tuesday at the Heineken Open tennis tournament in New Zealand.
The German Kohlschreiber posted an efficient 6-2, 6-3 win over Spain's Inigo Cervantes-Huegun in 63 minutes to get to the second round. Kohlschreiber dropped serve just once and lost 13 points over nine service games.
Cervantes-Huegun was placed in the tournament field when Argentine David Nalbandian withdrew because of an abdominal strain.
In other matches Tuesday involving seeded players, No. 7 Argentine Juan Monaco blitzed countryman Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-0, also in 63 minutes, and eighth-seeded Spanish player Albert Montanes stopped Australian James Lemke 6-1, 7-5 in 62 minutes.

Vienna -- Top-seeded Marin Cilic of Croatia and Jurgen Melzer won Saturday's semifinals at the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy at Vienna.
Cilic, the world's 13th-ranked men's player, beat fourth-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), despite Kohlschreiber saving 6-of-8 break points in the 98-minute match.
"I came here with the mind to play well," Cilic said. "I'm really pleased I kept my form on a good level (and) played four very good matches."
His opponent in Sunday's final, the seventh-seeded Melzer, was a 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 comeback winner over unseeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia.

Vienna -- Third-seeded Gael Monfils beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in a straight sets first-round match Wednesday at the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy at Vienna.
Monfils, the tournament's 2008 runner-up, defeated his Spanish foe 7-5, 6-4, winning 79 percent of service points and hitting seven aces.
If Monfils, a Paris native, wins the Vienna event, he will earn 160 points in his effort to qualify for the season-ending men's singles final at London next month.

Vienna -- Marin Cilic and Radek Stepanek, seeded Nos. 1 and 2, posted quick first-round victories Tuesday at the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy.
Cilic was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over qualifier Alejandro Falla to set up a second-round match with Daniel Brands. Stepanek downed Lukasz Kubot 6-4, 6-1 and will next meet Frederico Gil.
No. 4 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber also advanced with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Dieter Kindlmann and sixth-seeded Feliciano Lopez ousted Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-4, 6-4.
Lopez won his one and only tour title in this event five years ago.
In the most entertaining match of the day, No. 7 seed Jurgen Melzer went to two tiebreakers before downing Marco Chiudinelli 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (12-10).

Metz Sept. 23 -- Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber, the No. 2 seed, and Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu won their second-round matches Wednesday at the Open de Moselle tennis event.
Kohlschreiber rallied to beat fellow German Bjorn Phau 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Mathieu, the third seed playing before an enthusiastic crowd at Metz, France, was a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victor against fellow Frenchman Marc Gicquel, making it the third time this season Kohlschreiber beat Phau.
The other victories came at the BMW Open in Munich and the Gerry Webber Open in Halle.

Gstaad, Switzerland -- Second-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber was a straight-set loser Monday in first-round action of the Swiss Open Gstaad clay-court tournament in Switzerland.
Kohlschreiber fell 6-4, 6-0 to Victor Crivoi in 65 minutes. Crivoi converted the only break of the first set, which came on one of five Kohlschreiber double faults in the match, into the lead. Kohlschreiber won just five points on serve in the second set whitewash.
It was only the third time this year that Kohlschreiber dropped a first-round match and marked the fifth win in 15 matches in 2009 for Crivoi.
No. 7-seeded Feliciano Lopez was also an upset victim, dropping a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 decision to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

London -- Roger Federer and Robin Soderling set up a French Open finals rematch with victories Friday at the Wimbledon Championships in London.
Federer, seeded second at Wimbledon, defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 and Soderling, seeded 13th, took out Nicolas Almagro 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, 6-4 in Friday's third-round play.
The winners will meet Monday in the Round of 16. They last played June 7 in the French Open title match with Federer taking a straight-set victory and improving to 10-0 in his career against Soderling.
Federer faltered slightly in the third set Friday but was otherwise strong. He broke Kohlschreiber's serve seven times and finished the match with two breaks in the 29-minute third set.
