Washington -- U.S. President Barack Obama and an all-star lineup of musicians Wednesday honored Paul McCartney with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at the White House.
As the president looked on with first lady Michelle Obama, McCartney performed many of the hits he had with the Beatles and as a solo artist, including "Got to Get You Into My Life," "Eleanor Rigby" and "Michelle" -- a song he said he'd been "itching to do at the White House." He closed the show by singing "Let It Be' and getting everyone in the East Room of the White House to sing along with the familiar "Na, na, na, na, na, na, na" chorus on "Hey Jude."

London -- British rock 'n' roll icon Paul McCartney has narrated a 13-minute video about slaughterhouses for the group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
The 67-year-old former Beatle and longtime vegetarian narrated "Glass Walls" in an effort to raise awareness about how animals and workers are treated in slaughterhouses, The Daily Telegraph reported.
"If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian," the newspaper quoted McCartney as saying.
In the video, McCartney reportedly also explains how cows, pigs and chickens "endure almost unimaginable suffering." While he talks, images of the animals being killed are shown, the Telegraph said.

London -- Paul McCartney said at the London launch of his new CD and DVD that playing music helps him "revisit" his fallen former band mates and late wife Linda.
McCartney said at a news conference marking the release of the live CD and DVD "Good Evening New York City" that he can get "emotional" on stage when a song reminds him of John Lennon, George Harrison or Linda McCartney, the BBC reported Thursday.
"If I'm doing songs by The Beatles, I obviously remember the sessions when we recorded," the musician said. "There's a song I do called 'Here Today' which is specifically written for John, and that sometimes catches me out."
The former Beatle said he can be seen getting a little choked up playing "Here Today" on the DVD.

Paul McCartney is relieved the Beatles decided against naming their final album after a studio engineer's favourite cigarette brand.
The group initially agreed on the title Everest after spotting one of Geoff Emerick's cigarette packets during a brainstorming session - but McCartney still thinks that would have been a terrible idea.
He tells Mojo magazine, "It wasn't that great a title. His ciggies (cigarettes) were just lying on the control room desk, and we went, 'What about that? Everest! Big mountain on the front - that'd be good'.
"But then we went off the idea and I just said, 'You know what? We could call it Abbey Road. And it'd be really easy to step outside onto the crossing (for the cover picture)."
