NHL: San Jose 5, Tampa Bay 2

San Jose, Calif. -- Patrick Marleau scored twice and Antero Niittymaki made 33 saves Saturday in the San Jose Sharks' 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay.

Dany Heatley and Logan Couture also scored in the Sharks' offensive outburst, which came after they had been shut out in back-to-back losses to St. Louis and Minnesota.

San Jose was playing without captain Joe Thornton, who sat out while serving the first of a two-game suspension for an illegal hit to the head of the Blues' David Perron this week.

The Lightning wrapped up a 1-2-1 road trip with the loss. Steven Stamkos had a goal and an assist. Martin St. Louis also scored for the Bolts.

Mike Smith let in all five Sharks goals on 39 shots for Tampa Bay.

NHL: San Jose 5, Ottawa 2

San Jose -- Patrick Marleau scored a pair of goals and Dany Heatley picked up two assists against his former team in San Jose's 5-2 win Tuesday over visiting Ottawa.

San Jose also had goals from Jamie McGinn, Manny Malhotra and Ryan Clow in its fifth win in its last six games.

Milan Michalek scored twice for the Senators but Brian Elliott allowed four goals on 32 shots. Michalek was one of the players San Jose traded to Ottawa in September for Heatley.

Marleau, playing in his 900th NHL game, opened the scoring a 7:06 of the first period. McGinn added a goal less than a minute later to put the Sharks ahead 2-0.

NHL: San Jose 5, Carolina 1

Raleigh, N.C. -- Patrick Marleau scored a goal and added an assist Sunday, helping the San Jose Sharks whip Carolina 5-1, the Hurricanes' ninth consecutive loss.

Kent Huskins, Brad Staubitz, Douglas Murray and Marc-Edouard Vlasic each added a goal for San Jose, which has won five straight and seven of eight.

Brandon Sutter scored for Carolina.

Both goaltenders, the Sharks' Evgeni Nabokov and Carolina's Cam Ward, had 25 saves.

NHL: San Jose 2, Los Angeles 1 (SO)

San Jose, Calif. -- Dany Heatley and Ryane Clowe scored during a six-round shootout Wednesday, bringing the San Jose Sharks a 2-1 victory over Los Angeles.

San Jose moved into a tie with the Kings for the top spot in the Pacific Division.

Jonathan Quick of the Kings and Evgeni Nabokov of the Sharks both gave up a goal in the second period and were otherwise perfect until the shootout.

Michal Handzus scored for Los Angeles to open the shootout and Heatley kept the Sharks alive with a goal in the third round. After two misses for each side, Clowe produced the game-winner.

The Sharks captured their third straight win and ended a four-game Los Angeles winning streak. It was the first overtime loss of the year for the Kings.

NHL: San Jose 4, Atlanta 3

Atlanta -- Patrick Marleau scored two goals and added an assist in San Jose's 4-3 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.

Atlanta captain Ilya Kovalchuk, who is tied for the league lead in goals this season with nine, left the game after being hit in the foot by the puck in the first period. "He is going to the doctor, probably Monday morning to have it scanned and X-rayed to figure out what it is," Atlanta Coach John Anderson said Dany Heatly and Joe Thornton scored the other two San Jose goals and Evgeni Nabokov stopped 24 shots in the win.

NHL: San Jose 7, New York Rangers 2

New York, Oct. 19: Devin Setoguchi scored twice during a stretch of six unanswered goals Monday and the San Jose Sharks cooled off the New York Rangers 7-2.

The Rangers had won seven straight games after a season-opening loss to Pittsburgh and opened a 2-0 lead against the Sharks.

San Jose then took over, tying the game by the end of the first period and taking a 5-2 lead after two.

Setoguchi scored back-to-back goals in the second period to run his season total to seven. Patrick Marleau also scored his seventh goal of the year by producing San Jose's last score of the game with 1:55 to play in the third.

NHL: San Jose 4, Minnesota 2

San Jose, Oct. 11 -- Patrick Marleau scored two goals and had an assist and Evgeni Nabokov made 38 saves Saturday in San Jose's 4-2 victory over Minnesota.

Dany Heatley and Jed Ortmeyer also scored for the Sharks, who came back after falling behind 2-0 and improved their record to 3-2-0.

Owen Nolan and Andrew Brunette each scored a goal for Minnesota, which dropped to 1-3-0, and Niklas Backstrom stopped 25-of-29 shots.

Brunette took Shane Hnidy's shot from above the right circle and slapped it into the net at 6:59 in the first period. Nolan's goal, nine minutes into the second period, deflected off Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle and into the goal to make the score 2-0.
