New York pageant picks top granny

New York -- An 86-year-old New York woman was crowned the winner of the Your Highness Grandmother Pageant.

The judges of the Brooklyn pageant, area grandfathers, said they awarded the crown to four-time competitor Shifra Blinov, 86, who served as a nurse during World War II, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

"When I judge these women, I'm looking for them to make me feel young just from watching them," said judge Alexander Lachman, 65. "I want to take energy from these grandmothers and be a witness to their youthfulness."

Blinov, a native of Ukraine, was joined by her two granddaughters to sing a Russian song for the talent portion of the competition.
