New York -- Crude oil prices topped $84 per barrel overnight in New York with investors optimistic that demand was strong.

Key manufacturing indexes in China and the United States showed expanding business activity Monday. Oil prices have also found support from a weaker dollar. The dollar index on Tuesday morning fell 0.71 percent.

Beijing -- Premier Wen Jiabao says China attaches much importance to the upcoming Strategic Economic Dialogue with the United States to resolve trade and currency issues.

The second round of the SED talks is set for May in Beijing. Speaking at a China development forum in Beijing, Wen said China attaches "great importance to the dialogue," which he said "will be a chance for China and the United States to settle disputes and problems," the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Md. report optimistic about wind power

Baltimore -- Maryland could meet two-thirds of its electricity needs through offshore wind turbines, a new study says.

The report was prepared by the University of Delaware's Center for Carbon-free Power Integration for the Abell Foundation, The Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday.

Researchers said as many as 2,900 turbines could be placed off the coast. They recommended putting them at least 9 miles out to sea so they could not be seen from resorts such as Ocean City and said they would also have to be located where they would not block shipping into and out of Delaware Bay.
