Oprah ranked most-generous celebrity

Los Angeles -- Oprah Winfrey tops the list of charitable celebrities with more than $40 million given away to various programs last year, an analysis of public records shows.

Novelist Nora Roberts was a distant second on the list compiled by The Giving Back Fund, followed by actress Meryl Streep.

Streep donated $4 million to the Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts and Roberts parceled out $4.45 million to literacy programs through her Nora Roberts Foundation.

Oprah says she's still with Stedman

New York -- U.S. media mogul Oprah Winfrey says she and businessman Stedman Graham are still very much a couple.

Winfrey and Graham have been together since 1986. Although they got engaged in 1992, they have never married.

"The love -- the lover -- the man -- the partner -- the mate," CBS.com reported Winfrey said when asked by ABC News interviewer Barbara Walters about Graham's role in her life. "I do not know of another man on this planet -- who could have lived this life with such dignity, with such grace and such respect and humility in it. And still hold his own and be his own."

Oprah says she's not a lesbian

Chicago -- U.S. talk show host Oprah Winfrey denies a rumor claiming she is a lesbian in an upcoming interview with Barbara Walters to air on ABC.

"I'm not a lesbian," People.com quoted Winfrey as saying.
"I'm not even kind of a lesbian," she elaborated. "And the reason why (the rumor) irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I'm lying. That's number one. Number two ... why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life."

Particularly vexing, Winfrey said in the interview set for broadcast Thursday, is the fact the lesbian stories focus on her relationship with her longtime platonic friend Gayle King.

Oprah picks Dickens' books for Club

Chicago -- "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Great Expectations" by British writer Charles Dickens are the newest selections for Oprah's Book Club.

Oprah Winfrey announced her picks on Monday's edition of her syndicated talk show.

"I'm going old-old school," the Chicago Tribune quoted her as saying about the Victorian literary masterpieces.

Winfrey's past Book Club selections have included "Love in the Time of Cholera," "The Grapes of Wrath" and "Night."

Obama lauds Kennedy honorees

Washington -- This year's Kennedy Center honorees were feted at the White House Sunday evening with President Obama saying they "possess a staggering amount of talent."

The select group included country singer Merle Haggard, Broadway composer-lyricist Jerry Herman, choreographer-dancer Bill T. Jones, former Beatle Paul McCartney and television talk show star and executive Oprah Winfrey. They received their awards later in the evening at the Kennedy Center.

Groupon online after jolt by Winfrey plug

Chicago -- Internet site Groupon.com said it was back online after a crash triggered by U.S. consumers flooding the site after it was touted by Oprah Winfrey.

The television host's mention of Groupon was somewhat indirect. Winfrey listed microloan company Kiva on a segment of her program called "2010 Favorite Things," the Chicago Tribune reported Saturday.

Kiva allows participants to make loans to entrepreneurs, who generally come from Third World countries. On Friday, Winfrey said Kiva had organized a deal for a $10 Groupon to buy a $25 Kiva loan.

The Chicago Sun-Times said Kiva is still offering to "add $10 to every $15 purchase, up to $500,000."

Oprah, Whoopi resolve non-differences

Chicago -- Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg say they resolved their non-differences after a "Color Purple" reunion on The Oprah Show in Chicago.

"Whoopi came up to me and she said, 'Can I just ask you something?' She said … 'Did I do something to you?'" Winfrey said during a Color Purple reunion to air Monday, People magazine reported.

"I said, 'What are you talking about?'" Winfrey, said. "'All these years, you know, we've been disconnected and I just want to know, did I do something?' I said, 'All these years I thought you were mad at me.'"

Goldberg, who turns 55 Saturday, said she doesn't recall the two having a disagreement. "It's crazy," Goldberg said.

Halle Berry won't play Oprah if asked

Hollywood -- Halle Berry says that if anyone ever makes a movie about Oprah Winfrey, it probably won't include her in the starring role.

Berry taped an episode was on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show" this week in which the question off a biopic about Oprah came up and she assured the audience she wasn't aiming for the title role, The Hollywood Reporter said Saturday.

"I'm not going to play Oprah," Berry said, adding, "I don't know where these rumors come from."

Berry said she was not aware of any films about Oprah being in the works.
Berry's appearance on "Ellen" airs Monday.

Marie Osmond opens up about son's suicide on 'Oprah'

The U.S. entertainer Marie Osmond, whose young son died earlier this year, opened up for the first time about her son’s suicide death to Oprah Winfrey, according to U.S. tabloid reports.

Panhandler charms $100 from Oprah

New York -- A New York panhandler said talk show host Oprah Winfrey gave him $100 after he made her laugh with a joke.

Julio Bazan, 49, said he spotted the billionaire media mogul sitting in her limousine outside of the Soho House hotel Sunday night and he asked her for money, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

Bazan said Oprah initially told him she had no money but changed her mind after he told her a joke.

"Hey, Oprah, why is it good to date a homeless man? (Because) when you're finished, you can drop him off anywhere," Bazan recalled telling the TV host.

"She laughed," he said.

The panhandler said Oprah handed him five $20 bills, which he spent on underwear, alcohol and a steak dinner.
