MLB: Texas 11, LA Angels 6

Anaheim, Calif. Aug. 8: Josh Hamilton's three-run blast in the first, one of five Texas homers, started an onslaught Friday that carried the Rangers past the Los Angeles Angels 11-6.

Texas won for the eighth time in 10 meetings with the Angels this year and moved within 3 1/2 games of division-leading Los Angeles in the American League West.

The Rangers are also just one game behind Boston in the race for the top spot in the AL wild-card race.

After Hamilton's home run in the first, Hank Blalock hit a solo shot in the same inning.

Texas then got three solo homers in the fifth from Taylor Teagarden, Omar Vizquel and Michael Young -- all off reliever Justin Speier.

MLB: Texas 5, Seattle 4

Arlington, Texas Aug. 1: Marlon Byrd put Texas in front with a three-run homer in the fifth Friday, and the Rangers waited out a long rain delay to defeat Seattle 5-4.

Texas won for the 10th time in 12 outings and remained three games behind the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West.

Seattle took a 2-1 lead into the fifth, but Taylor Teagarden hit his second homer of the year to tie it.

Omar Vizquel and Michael Young then came through with two-out singles, and Byrd hit the first pitch he saw from Jason Vargas (3-5) for his 11th homer of the season.

MLB: Texas 5, Houston 4

Arlington, Texas June 18: David Murphy's bases-loaded single with one out in the 10th inning Wednesday gave Texas a 5-4 inter-league victory over Houston.

Houston's Ivan Rodriguez, who played most of his career for Texas, established a major league record by catching his 2,227th game. That broke the mark established by Carlton Fisk in 1993.

Rodriguez, however, was charged with two errors Wednesday -- both of which led to Texas runs.

Rodriguez was given a fifth-inning error, although his throw to second appeared perfect, in his bid to catch Omar Vizquel stealing. Vizquel was able to kick the ball out of the glove of second baseman Kazuo Matsui and advanced to third when the ball trickled into center.
