Dodgers get closer Dotel from Pirates

Los Angeles-- The Los Angeles Dodgers obtained reliever Octavio Dotel from the Pirates Saturday, sending pitcher James McDonald and outfielder Andrew Lambo to Pittsburgh.

Dotel has converted 21 of 26 save chances for Pittsburgh this season in 41 appearances. going 2-2 with a 4.28 earned run average.

The right-hander is 48-41 with a 3.75 ERA and 104 saves in 603 games, 34 starts, in his career with the Mets, Astros, Athletics, Yankees, Royals, Braves, White Sox and Pirates.

McDonald has spent parts of three seasons with the Dodgers. This year he has made one start, going 0-1 with an 8.22 ERA in just 7 2/3 innings. The right-hander is 5-6 with a 4.11 ERA in 53 games, including five starts, in his career.

Chicago, Sept. 10: A one-out double by A.J. Pierzynski drove in Alexei Ramirez from first in the 13th inning Wednesday, giving the Chicago White Sox a 4-3 win over Oakland.

The teams combined for 26 hits, but managed only two runs after the third inning.

Oakland tied it at 3-3 in the eighth on an RBI single by Kurt Suzuki and the relievers then battled on even terms until the White Sox struck against Edgar Gonzalez (0-2).

After Scott Podsednik grounded out to open the 13th, Ramirez singled to right. Pierzynski then hit the first offering from Gonzalez to center and Ramirez raced all the way around from first to score the winning run.

The White Sox, in third place in the American League Central, moved within 6 1/2 games of division-leading Detroit.

MLB: Milwaukee 7, Chicago White Sox 2

Milwaukee, June 12: Corey Hart had a triple, a double and three RBI Friday in the Milwaukee Brewers' 7-2 inter-league win over the Chicago White Sox.

Casey McGehee had two hits and two RBI and Bill Hall had two hits, one RBI and one run scored for the Brewers, who won for the first time in their last five games.

Milwaukee starter Jeff Suppan (5-4) yielded two runs on nine hits with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings to get the victory. He also had two hits and drove in a run.

A.J. Pierzynski had two hits, one RBI and one run scored, while Chris Getz drove in a run and Scott Podsednik collected three hits for the White Sox, who have lost nine of their last 13 games.
