MLB: Minnesota 8, Chicago White Sox 6

Chicago, Sept. 24: Nick Punto helped Minnesota build a five-run lead Wednesday and the Twins kept pace in the division pennant race by downing the Chicago White Sox 8-6.

Punto drove in three runs and scored twice in Minnesota's third straight win and their ninth in 10 outings. The Twins remained 2 1/2 games behind Detroit in the chase for the American League Central crown.

Detroit has 11 games remaining and Minnesota has 10. The teams are scheduled to meet four times next week in Detroit.

Punto scored on a single by Orlando Cabrera in the third, and then doubled home a run in the fourth while the Twins were taking a 5-0 advantage. He also had a two-run single as part of a three-run seventh that gave the Twins an 8-4 lead.

MLB: Minnesota 5, Cleveland 4

Minneapolis, Sept. 16: Nick Punto drove in two runs and Orlando Cabrera had a solo home run Tuesday in Minnesota's 5-4 win over the Cleveland Indians.

Joe Mauer went 2-for-3 to drive in a run and raise his batting average to .373, the best in the majors.

Joe Rauch (3-1) picked up the win in relief of starter Scott Baker, who lasted 5 1/3 innings. Joe Nathan earned his 40th save.

Fausto Carmona (3-11) took the loss after giving up five runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Matt La Porta had two RBI for Cleveland, including a solo home run in the ninth inning. Jamey Carroll had two hits and an RBI.

MLB: Minnesota 5, Texas 4

Arlington, Texas Aug. 19: Doubles by Michael Cuddyer and Joe Crede to open the sixth touched off a four-run inning Wednesday and rallied the Minnesota Twins to a 5-4 victory over Texas.

The Twins came back from a five-run deficit to down the Rangers Tuesday climbed out of a four-run hole Wednesday.

The setback dropped the Rangers out of a share of the lead with Boston in the American League wild-card race and pushed them 6 ½ games behind the hot Los Angeles Angels for the top spot in the AL West.

Minnesota's rally spoiled the return to the Texas roster of catcher Ivan Rodriguez, who spent the first 12 seasons of his 19-year career with the Rangers. Rodriguez got the start Wednesday and had three hits.

MLB: Minnesota 5, Chicago White Sox 3

Minneapolis, July 28: Mark Buehrle was 10 outs from his second straight perfect game but Minnesota then pounced on the Chicago White Sox left-hander and won 5-3.

Buehrle had retired a record 45 straight batters with two outs in the sixth. But Buehrle (11-4) wound up giving up five runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. Twins pitcher Scott Baker gave up just one run on four hits in six innings.

Jermaine Dye hit a solo homer and Gordon Beckham had two RBI with a single in the ninth for the White Sox.

Jose Mijares (1-2) gave up a hit in 1 2/3 innings for the victory and Joe Nathan retired the final batter to pick up his 28th save.

Nick Punto had two RBI for the Twins, who have won three in a row.

MLB: Minnesota 10, Los Angeles Angels 1

Anaheim, Calif. July 26: Minnesota's Justin Morneau ripped two home runs Sunday and the Twins buried the Los Angeles Angels 10-1, ending their eight-game winning streak.

Morneau drove in three runs. He leads the American League in homers (26) and RBI (82).

Denard Span had a two-run home run and four RBI and Nick Punto drove in three runs for the Twins, who ended a four-game skid.

Winner Anthony Swarzak (3-3) worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing a run and four hits.
Kendry Morales homered for the Angels.

Loser Ervin Santana (3-6) allowed six runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings.

MLB: Minnesota 4, Detroit 3

Minneapolis, July 4: Nick Punto's second hit Saturday, a single with one out in the eighth inning, boosted the Minnesota Twins to a 4-3 win over Detroit.

The hit came off losing pitcher Brandon Lyon (3-4).

Justin Morneau had four hits including a fifth-inning solo homer and an RBI single that tied the score at 3-3 in the seventh. Michael Cuddyer hit a fourth-inning solo homer for the Twins, who have won three of four.

The winner was reliever Matt Guerrier (4-0).

Closer Joe Nathan earned his 22nd save with two strikeouts in the top of the ninth.

Minnesota starter Francisco Liriano yielded three runs and five hits in seven innings with two walks and eight strikeouts.

MLB: Minnesota 8, Pittsburgh 2

Minneapolis, June 16: Joe Mauer was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI Tuesday to help the Minnesota Twins post an 8-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Glen Perkins (2-3), activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game, gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings for his first victory since April 19.

Joe Crede, Delmon Young, Carlos Gomez, Justin Morneau and Nick Punto each had an RBI for the Twins, who have won three of their last four games, all in inter-league play.

Pittsburgh's Paul Maholm (4-3) gave up eight runs on 14 hits in five-plus innings. Nyjer Morgan drove in the Pirates' two runs with his first homer of the season.
