Racy ad photos taken at museum

New York -- New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the Diesel clothing models who raised controversy with a library shoot also posed in a nearby museum.

A spokesman for the MTA said the male and female models, who raised controversy with a racy March 27 photo shoot at the Brooklyn Law School Library, posed the same day for underwear ads at the New York Transit Museum, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

"This photo shoot was closed to the public, and it provided revenue needed to help keep the museum operating," MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan said.

The library photo shoot raised the ire of faculty and students at the law school.

Stylists create hair cars, motorcycles

Troy, Mich. -- Organizers of the 25th annual Hair Wars showcase in Michigan said more than 300 hair models displayed cutting edge styles from more than 40 top stylists.

The Sunday event at the Met Hotel in Troy, this year dubbed "Hair Stars & Hot Cars," featured real and synthetic hair creations, including styles mimicking exhaust pipes, cars and motorcycles, The Detroit News reported Monday.

"They're more than just stylists," organizer David Humpries said. "They're hair entertainers."

Humpries said stylists came from as far away as Los Angeles and Pittsburgh to show off their creations. He said next year's Hair Wars will be taken on a tour of the United States and Caribbean islands.

New York -- Nearly 1,500 amateur models took part in the Ford Supermodel of the World Search in New York in an attempt to become famous models, organizers said.

Caroline Poznanski, director of the women's division for Ford Models, said Saturday's open call at the W Hotel was intended to select the one model who will represent the United States in the Supermodel of the World finals, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

"We're looking for girls who have a special something in their eye," Poznanski said. "They have to be beautiful and they have to have personality."

The supermodel finals are scheduled to take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in January and participants will vie for a $250,000 modeling contract.

Models not immune to economic woes

Miami -- Several fashion models living in Miami say the recession has impacted their industry to the point where work has become sparse.

Miami models Dani Dwyer, 19, and Andrea Milner, 22, said with Irene Marie Models agency closing down and contemplating bankruptcy, they have struggled to find work, The Miami Herald reported Sunday.

The models had been accustomed to having little to no free time as a result of their blossoming fashion careers but now are forced to limit their spending, particularly when it comes to shopping.

''Instead of having a $40 dinner, I'll get $100 worth of groceries to last me the week,'' Dwyer said of her financial troubles. "And I'm not buying as much.''

''I am going shopping less, too,'' Milner said in agreement. "I love shopping. This year, I've only gotten three pairs of shoes.''
