Although we don't believe in timing the market or panicking over market movements, we do like to keep an eye on big changes -- just in case they're material to our investing thesis.

One man's trash, they say, is another man's treasure. For investors that are willing to hold their noses and go dumpster diving, this can certainly be true in the stock market. Those that have tuned in for a few of my columns know that my usual modus operandi is to find high-quality companies that show love for their investors through dividends. And while strong dividend payers do make up most of my portfolio, my holdings aren't quite that one-dimensional.

Torrance, Calif. -- Japanese auto maker Toyota Motor Corp. confirmed it would recall 2004-2007 model year Prius vehicles due to faulty water pumps.
The water pumps are allowing air bubbles to enter the cooling systems, which slows water circulation and reduces performance, Mibz reported Tuesday.
The problem, which has not caused any accidents or personal harm, could result in reduced power.
Triangle Biz Journal said 378,000 U.S. Prius were affected by the recall.
Globally, about 650,000 Prius vehicles were involved, Mibz reported.
Toyota said it would contact Prius owners and begin repairs in December.

Torrance, Calif. -- Japanese automaker Toyota plans to expand its Prius lineup, including a larger model to shake off the image of hybrid cars as small vehicles, auto dealers said.
The automaker plans to have two Prius models in showrooms by 2013, said dealers who were told of the company's plans, the Detroit Free Press reported Friday.
"There's two of them -- a bigger one and one that's close to the size of the current one," said Todd McCallum, operations director of LaFontaine Automotive Group, a Michigan firm.
Toyota spokesman Joe Tetherow confirmed the news.

Los Angeles -- A former model on the "Price is Right" has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles accusing host Bob Barker of running her out of a job after she became pregnant.
The suit filed by Shane Stirling contends Barker had a major role in getting her bounced from the show shortly after she announced she was pregnant in 2006, TMZ.com said Sunday.
"The host of the game show had always been very kind and generous to Stirling until he learned that she was pregnant," the lawsuit said.
Stirling, who is seeking more than $25,000 in damages, alleged Barker insisted she not work while pregnant because of liability issues.

Boston -- When looking for a model for a counter-intuitive, but successful, marketing plan, look no further than the Grateful Dead, two U.S. authors have proposed.
In a book titled "Marketing Lessons from the Grateful Dead," to be released Monday, authors Brian Halligan and David Meerman Scott explain that the rock 'n' roll group that toured incessantly for three decades tripped, pun or no pun, over a marketing strategy that served them well in spite of itself.
The Dead created loyal fans by allowing concert-goers to record live shows, which established a network of grassroots advertising that helped sell concert tickets, The Boston Globe reported Friday.
