Free tix for Giants-Vikes game in Detroit

Detroit -- Detroit football fans who'd like to watch the Minnesota Vikings play the New York Giants Monday at Ford Field can have free tickets, the NFL said Sunday.

The Giants-Vikings was moved to Detroit thanks to the collapse of the Metrodome's inflatable roof under the weight of a 17-inch snowfall that hit downtown Minneapolis this weekend.

Vikings fans with tickets to the Giants game who can make their way to Detroit will be given priority seating at Ford Field. But all other seats for the game will be distributed free at the stadium box office starting at 9 a.m. EST Monday, USA Today reported,

All Vikings fans will be given refunds for the moved game.

NFL: Favre 'sexting' probe completed

New York -- An NFL probe into "sexting" allegations against Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has been concluded, a league official confirmed Wednesday.

NFL Senior Vice President Greg Aiello told the SportsBusiness Journal investigators have wrapped up their look into allegations by former New York Jets sideline host Jenn Sterger that Favre sent her lewd cellphone photos and voice mails two years ago.

The results of the investigation have been sent to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's office for review and possible action, Aiello said.

"We have not reached a conclusion," he told the publication. "When we do, we will communicate it to the appropriate parties."

Minnesota fires Brad Childress

Eden Prairie, Minn. -- Brad Childress has been fired as coach of the Minnesota Vikings, who installed defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier as interim coach.

Childress was relieved of his duties Monday, one day after Green Bay defeated the Vikings 31-3 and dropped Minnesota (3-7) to four games behind both the Packers and Chicago Bears in the NFC North.

Childress was in his fifth season as the Vikings' coach and was coming off back-to-back division titles. Minnesota last season advanced to the NFC championship game, losing to the New Orleans Saints.

Vikings waive receiver Randy Moss

Eden Prairie, Minn. -- Controversial Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss was put on waivers by the team Monday, head Coach Brad Childress confirmed.

The move came one day after Moss caught only one pass for 8 yards against his former team, the New England Patriots, during the Vikings' 28-18 setback at Gillette Stadium.

"This decision was made based on what we thought was in the best interests of the Minnesota Vikings, both in the short and long term," Childress said in an issued statement. "We wish Randy the best as he moves forward in his career."
Moss garnered media attention after the game by telling reporters Childress didn't listen to his suggestions on how to play his former team.

Goodell: Investigators to meet with Favre

South Bend, Ind. -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will be interviewed soon about sexual harassment allegations, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Saturday.

Goodell, speaking to NBC Sports during its broadcast of the Notre Dame Western Michigan game in South Bend, Ind., said NFL investigators will meet with Favre Tuesday over accusations he sent inappropriate pictures and text messages to former New York Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger.

NBC reported Goodell has indicated he won't attend the meeting himself. Instead, Milt Ahlerich, the NFL's vice president of security, reportedly will meet with Favre in the Twin Cities.

Ailing elbow may end Favre's streak

Eden Prairie, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre said Wednesday he could miss his first start in 313 straight games if his ailing elbow keeps hurting.

Favre holds the NFL record for consecutive games played but indicated that could come to an end Sunday if the tendinitis in his throwing elbow affects his accuracy the way it did in Monday night's loss to the New York Jets, The (Minneapolis) Star Tribune reported.

"You're not going to make every throw but I would have made some of those throws," Favre told reporters during his weekly news conference in Eden Prairie, Minn. "From that standpoint, I don't want to play just to play."

Goodell: No timetable on Favre probe

Chicago -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday the league has no timetable in its "sexting" probe of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre.

Goodell, speaking with reporters after a league meeting in Chicago, said he didn't know how long it will take to look into allegations that Favre sent sexually explicit photos and text messages to a female employee of the New York Jets, Pro Football Weekly reported.

"Our staff has been working aggressively on this, trying to gather data," Goodell said. "Then we'll make some determinations. I'd be hesitant to say any timing until I had a chance to understand it and make sure we can get all the information."

Randy Moss traded to Vikings

Eden Prairie, Minn. -- Wide receiver Randy Moss was traded to the Minnesota Vikings from the New England Patriots, who receive a draft choice in exchange.

The trade announced Wednesday sends Moss to the team with which he started his NFL career in 1998. He spent seven seasons with Minnesota before going to the Oakland Raiders for two years. He'd been with New England since the 2008 season.

The teams didn't disclose what draft choice the Patriots would receive.

Moss, 33, is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, including last season when he caught 83 passes for 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns. This season he caught four passes, three of which ended up as touchdowns, but didn't have any receptions in Monday's win at Miami.

Vikings sign Walker; Rice has surgery

Eden Prairie -- Minnesota Vikings signed receiver Javon Walker Tuesday, the day after their Pro Bowl wideout, Sidney Rice, had hip surgery.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune said Rice could miss half the upcoming season. Rice confirmed to the newspaper by text message that he had the procedure done Monday at a clinic in Vail, Colo.

Rice had his hip examined by three specialists during the off-season but showed up at training camp still sore and was placed on the physically unable to perform list. He has said he was injured in the Vikings' NFC title game loss to New Orleans last season.

Rice, 23, caught 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight scores last season.

Vikings' Harvin out of hospital

Eden Prairie, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings receiver Percy Harvin was out of the hospital Friday, a day after vomiting and collapsing on the field during practice.

The Star Tribune in Minneapolis reported Harvin was in street clothes when he showed up at practice at the NFL team's practice facility in Eden Prairie, Minn. He was greeted with handshakes and hugs from teammates and coaches, the newspaper said.

Harvin, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance Thursday, has a history of migraines so severe they have prevented him from playing.

The second-year player caught 60 passes for 790 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie season.

Vikings' Harvin collapses at practice

Eden Prairie, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings receiver Percy Harvin collapsed at practice at the NFL team's facility in suburban Minneapolis Thursday, Coach Brad Childress said.

Harvin, who has a history of chronic migraines, was taken to a hospital in an ambulance.

Childress said the episode began after Harvin looked skyward during a punt return. The coach said Harvin jogged off the field to see team trainers, returned and was watching practice when he fell sick.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Harvin threw up before falling to the ground.

The 5-foot-11, 184-pound, second-year player was checked by medical staff on the field, the Star Tribune said. Children said Harvin appeared stable before leaving for the hospital.

Favre: Still mulling whether to play

Hattiesburg, Miss. -- Quarterback Brett Favre said Wednesday he's still undecided if he will play the upcoming season for the Minnesota Vikings.

Disputing reports from teammates saying he had told them he's retiring, Favre told ESPN the determining factor on whether he returns for a 20th season will be the health of his surgically repaired ankle.

The signal-caller told the broadcaster in Hattiesburg, Miss., that he had not sent messages to teammates indicating his playing future, and didn't elaborate on when a decision might come.

Favre had surgery in May to remove scar tissue and bone spurs from his injured left ankle, which took a hit in last season's NFC championship game loss to New Orleans.
