Los Angeles -- Miley Cyrus' father says he was stunned by the recently surfaced video of his teenage daughter smoking from a bong at a Los Angeles party.
Cyrus fired off on Twitter Friday, saying he had just seen the images for the first time and "had no idea" the partying had taken place.
"Im so sad," the tweet said. "There is much beyond my control right now."
The New York Daily News said video cropped up a couple of months after the 18-year-old pop princess' parents, Billy Ray and Tish, announced their divorce.
A source told TMZ that despite her giggling and sometimes incoherent conversations, Miley was not smoking marijuana but rather Salvia, an herb that can have hallucinogenic effects.

Los Angeles -- Kid Rock, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Carlos Santana and Gavin Rossdale have been booked to perform at the upcoming 2010 American Music Awards.
The additions to the ceremony's lineup were announced Thursday by Dick Clark Productions President Orly Adelson.
The artists join previously announced acts such as the Backstreet Boys & New Kids on the Block, Rihanna, Diddy-Dirty Money, Ne-Yo, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Christina Aguilera, Bon Jovi, P!nk and Usher.
Additional announcements, including this year's presenters, are expected to be made soon, the program's producers said.
The show will broadcast live from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE on Nov. 21 on ABC.

Madrid -- Celebrity photographers say they snapped teenage singer Miley Cyrus partying it up in Madrid in the run-up to Sunday's MTV Europe Music Awards.
The 17-year-old was captured holding what looked to be a beer and hanging out with a cadre of young men at Kapital dance club, People reported Saturday.
Cyrus is on the bill for the awards show along with Linkin Park, Rihanna, Katy Perry and other members of the pop elite.
The 17th edition of the MTV Europe Music Awards airs in the United States Sunday at 9 p.m. EST.

New York -- The New York City Health Department said the top baby names for the city in 2009 included celebrity- inspired choices such as Scarlett, Chanel and Miley.
The annual list of top name selections, released last week, was topped by Jayden for boys and Isabella for girls -- but further down the list were girl name No. 73 Malia, the name of one of President Barack Obama's daughters, and boy name No. 158 Usher, after the popular recording artist, the New York Post reported Tuesday.
Also included on the list were No. 104 Scarlett, as in actress Scarlett Johansson; No. 112 Miley, like singer and TV star Miley Cyrus; and fashion-inspired names including No. 139 girls' name Chanel, and boys' names No. 148 Dior and No. 150 Armani.

New York -- U.S. recording stars Miley Cyrus and B.o.B have been booked to perform at the upcoming 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards show in Madrid, organizers said.
"I can't wait for the EMAs!" Cyrus said in a statement Thursday. "It will be my first performance on this amazing show and the people of Madrid are going to be the best audience ever!"
"I'm very excited about my upcoming performance with Hayley (Williams) at the EMAs this year," added B.o.B. "Here's hoping that this is the first of many!"
The prize presentation is to take place Nov. 7.
Other acts scheduled to take the stage are Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Kid Rock, Kings of Leon, Linkin Park, Plan B and Shakira.

Los Angeles -- America has to get over the fact that Miley Cyrus won't be a teenager her whole life as the Disney star blossoms into young adulthood.
Cyrus, whose recent music video for "Who Owns My Heart" depicts the pop idol maturing into a sex symbol, is proving she is a "performer and a businessperson -- not the protector of childhood innocence" -- and parents who admonish the 17-year-old for her efforts to break out of her squeaky-clean Disney persona need to get a grip, The Washington Post said Saturday.
