St. Petersburg, Russia -- Russian Mikhail Youzhny and Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin will square off for the St. Petersburg Open title after both won semifinals matches Saturday.
No. 1 seed Youzhny played a tense third-set tiebreaker, saving four match points before downing fellow Russian Dmitry Tursunov, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8). Youzhny got hot late in the tiebreaker, storming back from a 6-3 deficit to deny Tursunov.
He eventually prevailed in a match that lasted just over three hours.
In the day's other semifinal, Kukushkin emerged with a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Ukraine's Ilya Marchenko in a relatively easy affair that lasted just 95 minutes. Kukushkin broke serve for a 5-4 lead in the second set to reach his first career WTP finals.

St. Petersburg, Russia -- No. 1-seeded Mikhail Youzhny needed to win a third-set tie-breaker Friday to claim a semifinals berth at the St. Petersburg Open tennis tournament in Russia.
Youzhny edged eighth-seeded Victor Hanescu 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). Youzhny saved all four break points he faced, but the match still ran nearly 3 hours because Hanescu only dropped serve once.
Three of Hanescu's break opportunities came in the third set.
Mikhail Kukushkin ousted third-seeded Janko Tipsarevic 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Tipsarevic had 10 aces and backed Kukushkin into 11 break-point situations but could only convert three of them. One break point was in the third set, but Kukushkin answered with two of his three breaks on the day to take the match.

St. Petersburg, Russia -- No. 1-seeded Mikhail Youzhny rallied from a set down Thursday to take a quarterfinals berth at the St. Petersburg Open tennis tournament in Russia.
Youzhny, the world No. 10, used five service breaks to get past the 260th-ranked Evgeny Donskoy 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Donskoy had a break of Youzhny's serve in each set, which won him the first set but wasn't enough to offset his own loss of serve.
Youzhny will meet eighth-seeded Victor Hanescu in the quarterfinals Friday. They are two of the three seeded players left in the draw, joining No. 3-seeded Janko Tipsarevic, who locked up his quarterfinal berth Wednesday.

St. Petersburg, Russia -- Top-seeded Mikhail Youzhny won his first-round match at the St. Petersburg Open but two seeded players lost Wednesday at the tournament in Russia.
Youzhny took over Daniel Brands 6-4, 6-1 without facing a break point and converted 4-of-6 break-point chances. He lost only three points -- one on a double fault -- in eight service games.
While he moved on, second-seeded Sergiy Stakhovsky and No. 5-seeded Viktor Troicki were both ousted in their first-round matches. Benjamin Becker only managed two service breaks but each cost Stakhovsky a set in a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 Becker win. Rainer Schuettler handled Troicki 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, getting three breaks in the third set to advance.

London -- Mikhail Youzhny's victory at the Malaysian Open boosted his tennis ranking to No. 8 in the world, matching his career best.
Youzhny rallied from a set down for the third consecutive day and beat Andrey Golubev in winning the event and picking up his seventh career title.
He moved from ninth to eighth in the rankings released Monday, switching places with Fernando Verdasco in the only change among the first 38 places.
Coming in at No. 39, however, is Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who defeated world No.
1 Rafael Nadal in the semifinals and Jarkko Nieminen in the finals of the Thailand Open. Garcia-Lopez jumped 14 places in the rankings. Nieminen also jumped up, going from 60th to 48th.

Kuala Lumpur -- Mikhail Youzhny and Andrey Golubev each won tight matches Saturday and advanced to the title match of the Malaysian Open.
The fourth-seeded Youzhny took out Igor Andreev 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 while Golubev, seeded eighth, ousted fifth-seeded David Ferrer 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
Sunday's championship match will be the fourth meeting between Youzhny and Golubev. All of the previous matches have been won by Youzhny.
Youzhny will be the third Top 11 player faced by Golubev this week. He beat world No. 5 Robin Soderling in the second round before topping No. 11 Ferrer. Youzhny is ranked No. 9 this week.

Gstaad, Switzerland -- Mikhail Youzhny claimed a straight-set victory Friday in grabbing a quarterfinal berth at the Allianz Suisse Open tennis event in Switzerland.
Youzhny, the tournament's No. 1 seed, lost his serve only once in the 7-5, 6-4 win over Alexander Sadecky. He broke Sadecky's serve three ties, including twice in the second set.
Yuri Schukin earned a shot in Friday's quarters against Youzhny with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Frederico Gil. He had six service breaks in nine games, which allowed him to survive three breaks by Gil.
Another quarterfinal was set after wins by second-seeded Nicolas Almagro and Jeremy Chardy.

Gstaad, Switzerland -- No. 1-seeded Mikhail Youzhny on Tuesday ripped past Marc Gicquel and into the second round of the Allianz Suisse Open tennis tournament in Switzerland.
Youzhny needed just 73 minutes to defeat Gicquel 6-2, 6-2 on the strength of five service breaks in eight receiving games. Youzhny won 59 percent of the points in the match, including 53 percent off Gicquel's serve.
Second-seeded Nicolas Almagro was pushed much harder, taking more than 2 hours and three sets to get past Marcel Granollers 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-3. Almagro got a decisive break in the third set -- only the fourth overall in the match.

Munich -- Russian Mikhail Youzhny won his first title of the year Sunday, outlasting top-seeded Marin Cilic in the final of the BMW Open in Munich, Germany.
Second-seeded Youzhny downed Cilic 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, in two hours, 51 minutes, adding the BMW Open championship to his five previous career championships.
Youzhny was the runner-up at the Munich event in both 2007 and 2009. He made the finals of the Dubai and Rotterdam tournaments earlier this year, losing both of them.
Cilic fell to 0-4 lifetime against Youzhny with the loss, falling short in his bid to become the first three-time winner on tour this year.

Munich -- No. 2-seeded Mikhail Youzhny and third-seeded Tomas Berdych each needed less than an hour Monday to collect first-round victories at the BMW Open in Germany.
Youzhny, last year's BMW runner-up, pummeled Jeremy Chardy 6-1, 6-4 in 59 minutes. He lost only 13 points on serve, with the bulk of those coming in Chardy's lone service break. Youzhny had already established control of the match, however, dropping only nine points total in the first set.
Berdych was even more efficient finishing off a 6-1, 6-1 rout of Kevin Krawietz in 44 minutes. Krawietz won just four points over Berdych's seven service games.

Moscow -- Mikhail Youzhny on Sunday posted his second straight-set win of the series, locking up a Russian victory in a first-round Davis Cup series with India.
Youzhny, whose victory Friday over Rohan Bopanna put the Russians within one win of taking the best-of-five series, defeated Somdev Devvarman 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 Sunday for a clinching third Russia win.
Bopanna took a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 decision from Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili in a pairing shortened to a best-of-three-sets match because the series had been decided.
Russia advances to the Davis Cup quarterfinals in July against either Argentina or Sweden.

Valencia, Spain -- Third-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France was among Wednesday's losers at the Valencia Open men's tennis tournament at Valencia, Spain.
Tsonga was trailing 0-3 to Russia's Mikhail Youzhny in the third set when a left wrist injury forced him to retire.
Tsonga won the first set, 7-6 (7-3), while Youzhny won the second, 6-0.
The loss dropped Tsonga 380 points behind No. 8-ranked Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the battle for a berth at next week's season-ending Paribas Masters at Paris.
