MLB: Kansas City 12, Boston 9

Kansas City, Mo., Sept. 22: Yuniesky Betancourt stroked a two-run single to ignite a six-run sixth inning Monday and the Kansas City Royals beat Boston 12-9.

Mike Jacobs had a three-run home run and Billy Butler, Alberto Callaspo and Alex Gordon drove in two runs apiece for the Royals, who erased an 8-2 deficit and earned their 11th win in 14 games.

Jason Bay had a three-run home run for the Red Sox, who lead Texas by 7 1/2 games in the AL wild-card chase, pending the outcome of the Rangers' game in Oakland Monday.

Victor Martinez had two RBI and ran his hitting streak to a career-best 20 games. Jacoby Ellsbury knocked in two runs for Boston.

MLB: Kansas City 5, Detroit 1

Kansas City, Mo. Sept. 10: Billy Butler had three doubles and drove in a run apiece with two of them Wednesday in leading the Kansas City Royals to a 5-1 win over Detroit.

Robinson Tejeda (2-1) struck out eight in throwing six shutout innings. It was Tejada's second start in place of the ailing Gil Meche and Tejada ran his scoreless streak to 11 1/3 innings.

Kansas City has won three in a row for the first time since July 4-6. Detroit has dropped two straight and saw its lead in the American League Central reduced to 5 1/2 games over Minnesota.

Butler scored the game's first run on a single by Mike Jacobs in the third and the lead remained 1-0 until Butler's first RBI double in the seventh.

MLB: Kansas City 7, Detroit 5

Kansas City, Mo. Sept. 8: Billy Butler drove in the game-tying run and Mike Jacobs drove in the game-winner Tuesday in the Kansas City Royals' 7-5 win over Detroit.

The Royals scored five unanswered runs to end Detroit's six-game winning streak.
Butler had two RBI for the Royals and Jacobs had two hits, an RBI and a run scored in the win.

Bruce Chen gave up five runs, seven hits and four walks through 4 2/3 innings.
Yasuhiko Yabuta (1-1) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless frames to earn the win, and Joakim Soria earned his 23rd save of the season.

Ryan Raburn was 3-for-4 with a homer for the Tigers, who maintained their 6 1/2 game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central. Marcus Thames and Aubrey Huff each drove in two of runs in defeat.

MLB: Oakland 10, Kansas City 4

Oakland, Calif. Sept. 2: Landon Powell hit his first career grand slam Wednesday in Oakland's 10-4 victory over Kansas City.

Powell's grand slam, his fifth homer this season, capped a five-run inning, giving Oakland an 8-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the second.

Rajai Davis and Ryan Sweeney had two hits and two RBI apiece.

Mark Ellis drove in a run.

Sweeney drove in a run with a groundout, while Jack Cust and Adam Kennedy added two hits each for the Athletics, who have split their last eight games.

Winner Trevor Cahill (8-12) gave up three runs and six hits in five innings.

Josh Anderson led Kansas City with two hits and one RBI.

MLB: Chicago White Sox 8, Kansas City 7

Chicago, Aug. 18: Scott Podsednik drove in the winning run in the eighth inning Monday and the Chicago White Sox beat Kansas City 8-7, despite blowing a three-run lead.

The White Sox were ahead 7-4 when the Royals' Mike Jacobs tied the score with a pinch-hit three-run home run in the top of the eighth. Alex Rios led off the home half of the eighth with a walk, took second on a sacrifice bunt by Alexei Ramirez and then scored the go-ahead run on Podsednik's one-out single.

Jayson Nix and A.J. Pierzynski each hit a two-run homer and Podsednik drove in a run with a double in the fourth for Chicago, which won for the third time in its last four games.

Mark Buehrle started for the White Sox, allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings.

MLB: Tampa Bay 8, Kansas City 7

Kansas City, Mo. July 18: Evan Longoria capped a Tampa Bay rally with a two-run homer in the eighth Friday, lifting the Rays to an 8-7 decision over Kansas City.

The Royals took a 6-2 lead through three innings, but the Rays came back to win for the fifth time in seven games.

Tampa Bay got within one on Pat Burrell's two-run blast in the seventh and Longoria gave the Rays the lead in the eighth when he hit his 18th homer of the season.

Carl Crawford reached on a two-out single off Juan Cruz (3-3) and Longoria followed by hitting the first pitch from Cruz out to left.

That made a winner out of Joe Nelson (3-0), who worked the seventh inning. J.P. Howell earned his seventh save with a perfect ninth.

MLB: Kansas City 4, Detroit 3

Detroit, July 6: Mike Jacobs homered off Detroit reliever Fernando Rodney in the ninth inning Monday to give the Kansas City Royals a 4-3 win over the Tigers.

Willie Bloomquist was 3-for-4 with a home run and a two-run triple for the Royals, who have three straight wins. Jose Guillen and Miguel Olivo each had two hits in the victory.

Joakim Soria allowed one hit but struck out two in one inning of relief to earn his 13th save.

Ryan Raburn homered and had an RBI double and Marcus Thames also homered for Detroit.

Roman Colon (1-0) got the victory.

MLB: Kansas City 3, St. Louis 2

St. Louis -- Mike Jacobs sent Kansas City ahead with an RBI single in the seventh inning and the Royals hung on Sunday to top the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2.

Jacobs, pinch-hitting, scored Willie Bloomquist, who had doubled.

Brian Bannister (4-1) got the win, allowing two runs and seven hits in six innings, helping the Royals end a four-game losing streak.

Bannister and Billy Butler each had an RBI for Kansas City.

Joel Pineiro (5-4) took the loss, yielding three runs and eight hits over seven innings.

Pineiro and Yadier Molina drove in the St. Louis runs.
