Chicago -- Delmon Young and Michael Cuddyer both drove in two runs Thursday and the Minnesota Twins moved closer to a division title by downing the Chicago White Sox 8-5.
The Twins have won five in a row, the last three coming against Chicago, and increased their lead over the White Sox in the American League Central to nine games. Minnesota reached a season-best 30 games over .500 and reduced its magic number for clinching the division championship to eight.
Cuddyer scored the first of Minnesota's three runs in the opening inning on a single by Jim Thome and delivered a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Young added a two-run homer in the fifth that gave the Twins a 6-2 lead.

Minneapolis -- Michael Cuddyer scored on a throwing error to cap a four-run, ninth-inning rally that gave the Minnesota Twins a 7-6 win over the Chicago White Sox Sunday.
Trailing 6-3 entering the final frame, the Twins scored four runs off White Sox relievers Bobby Jenks (1-2) and Sergio Santos to take three wins in a four-game set at Target Field and pull to within 1 1/2 games of Chicago atop the American League Central.
Jenks walked Orlando Hudson and Joe Mauer to start the inning and Jason Kubel and Cuddyer followed with RBI singles to get the Twins to within 6-5. Santos relieved and issued a walk to Jason Repko to load the bases.

Detroit -- Michael Cuddyer socked a two-run double, Carl Pavano hurled seven-plus solid innings Sunday and the Minnesota Twins spanked Detroit 6-3.
Cuddyer's smash in the fifth inning eluded center fielder Austin Jackson, driving in Denard Span and Delmon Young to put Minnesota ahead 4-0 and helping the Twins to salvage one game of a three-game series at Comerica Park.
Jason Kubel added a pair of hits and an RBI and Danny Valencia delivered a run-scoring double for Minnesota, which broke a four-game losing streak and went into the All-Star break at 46-42, good for third place in the American League Central.

Seattle -- Minnesota Twins right fielder Michael Cuddyer is on a four-day bereavement leave, the team said.
Cuddyer was to fly to Virginia Thursday to to attend the funeral of his father-in-law. He is expected to rejoin the Twins for a game against Kansas City Tuesday in Minneapolis.
The Twins put Cuddyer on the bereavement list after a 2-1 loss Wednesday in Seattle.

Seattle -- Michael Cuddyer homered and collected an RBI single Monday, pacing the Minnesota Twins' 5-4 decision over Seattle.
Cuddyer's run-scoring hit triggered a three-run Twins outburst in the second inning and his solo blast an inning later extended Minnesota's lead to 4-1. Jason Kubel added a home run on the next pitch from Doug Fister (3-3) to pad the Twins' lead.
Delmon Young connected on a two-run shot and Justin Morneau went 3-for-4 to raise his MLB-best batting average to .377, helping Minnesota win its fifth straight game and extend its lead in the American League Central to 4 1/2 games.

Kansas City, Mo., Sept. 27: Yuniesky Betancourt hit a key three-run homer Sunday, leading the Kansas City Royals' 4-1 win over Minnesota.
The homer, Betancourt's sixth this season, gave Kansas City a quick 3-0 lead with one out in the bottom of the second.
Betancourt had three of his team's six hits and scored on a fourth-inning wild pitch by reliever Jeff Manship to help the Royals avert a three-game sweep.
Winner Zack Greinke (16-8), a possible AL Cy Young contender, yielded a run and seven hits in seven innings with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Closer Joakim Soria hurled two scoreless innings to earn his 29th save.
Minnesota's run scored on Michael Cuddyer's groundout in the sixth.

Kansas City, Mo., Sept. 26: Joe Mauer drew the first of three straight bases-loaded walks in a four-run fifth inning Friday and Minnesota went on to down Kansas City 9-4.
Minnesota won its fourth in a row and moved within two games of division-leading Detroit in the American League Central, adding further drama to a four-game series between the Twins and Tigers next week. Detroit will host the series beginning Monday.
Minnesota held a 2-1 lead going into the fourth before loading the bases against Robinson Tejeda (2-4).
Orlando Cabrera then drove in a run with a single, after which Mauer, Jason Kubel and Michael Cuddyer worked consecutive walks. Tejada walked seven batters overall in 4 1/3 innings.

Chicago, Sept. 22: Orlando Cabrera, Michael Cuddyer, Jason Kubel and Matt Tolbert homered Tuesday to give Minnesota an 8-6 win over the Chicago White Sox.
The Twins remained 2 1/2 games behind Detroit in the divisional race. The Tigers beat Cleveland earlier Tuesday.
Paul Konerko, Gordon Beckham and Alex Rios homered for the White Sox, who have lost six of their last seven games. John Danks (12-10) suffered the loss after he surrendered seven runs on eight hits over six innings.
Jesse Crain (7-4), who pitched 1 1/3 scoreless relief innings, earned the win while Joe Nathan pitched a perfect ninth for his 43rd save of the season.

Minneapolis -- Michael Cuddyer's three hits and three RBI Wednesday led Minnesota to a 7-3 rout of Cleveland, completing a three-game sweep.
Cuddyer fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle with a third-inning RBI single, a solo homer in the fifth, and an RBI double in the seventh.
Joe Mauer had two hits and two RBI. Both Denard Span and Jose Morales had two hits and one RBI, while Matt Tolbert had two hits for the Twins, who have won four in a row.
Winner Nick Blackburn (10-11) surrendered two runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Closer Joe Nathan earned his 41st save by fanning the last two batters.
Matt LaPorta led Cleveland with three hits -- one a two-run homer -- and three RBI.

Minneapolis, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Twins used a six-run eighth inning fueled by Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel home runs Monday to rally past Cleveland 6-3.
The victory kept the Twins within 5 1/2 games of American League Central-leading Detroit.
Cuddyer cranked a three-run blast and Kubel provided a two-run shot. Seven of Kubel's 23 homers and 17 of his 84 RBI this season have come in 15 games against Cleveland.
Delmon Young scored what turned out to be the winning run when he scampered home on a wild pitch by reliever Chris Perez (0-1).
Ron Mahay (2-1) got the win with a scoreless eighth. Joe Nathan recorded his 39th save of the season.

Minneapolis, Sept. 1: Jose Morales had a pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth inning Tuesday to give the Minnesota Twins a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Michael Cuddyer homered twice for the Twins, who have won nine of their last 11 games and remain 3 1/2 games behind AL Central-leading Detroit.
Jon Rauch (2-0) got the win after pitching the top of the ninth.
Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham homered for the White Sox, who have lost five in a row and nine of 10.
Jason Kubel singled off Matt Thornton (6-3) to begin the ninth. Brendan Harris singled an out later to put runners at the corners. After Carlos Gomez struck out, Morales got his first hit since July 11 to drive in the winning run.

Minneapolis, Aug. 29: Minnesota scored all its runs in the first inning Friday, and Joe Nathan survived a shaky ninth to preserve a 3-2 win for the Twins over Texas.
The Twins moved past the Chicago White Sox into second place in the American League Central, 4 1/2 games behind division-leading Detroit.
Joe Mauer, Jason Kubel and Michael Cuddyer had run-scoring hits in the first inning, and Minnesota starting pitcher Brian Duensing easily protected the lead.
Duensing (2-1), making only his second start since being called up from Class AAA Rochester, allowed a run on three hits and struck out eight over seven innings.
