Melvin Mora

MLB: Colorado 6, New York Mets 2

New York -- Melvin Mora hit a grand slam as part of a five-run eighth inning Wednesday that rallied the Colorado Rockies to a 6-2 win over the New York Mets.

Jon Niese held Colorado to a run on five hits with seven strikeouts through seven innings, but it took three New York relievers to get through the eighth. All of the damage in Colorado's big inning was done after two were out.

Hisanori Takahashi (7-6) retired Seth Smith and Dexter Fowler to start the eighth, but Todd Helton singled and Carlos Gonzalez drew a walk. Manny Acosta relieved Takahashi and threw a wild pitch before intentionally walking Troy Tulowitzki to load the bases.

MLB: Baltimore 3, Oakland 2

Baltimore, Aug. 11: Brian Roberts had three hits and an RBI Tuesday to lead the Baltimore Orioles to a 3-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics.

Adam Jones and Melvin Mora drove in the other runs for the Orioles, who beat the Athletics for the first time in their last 10 meetings.

Winning pitcher David Hernandez (4-4) allowed two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out six in 6 2/3 innings. Jim Johnson earned the save.

Losing pitcher Trevor Cahill (6-12) gave up three runs and eight hits over seven innings for his seventh loss in his last eight decisions. Scott Hairston and Adam Kennedy homered for the Athletics, who had won six of their previous eight games.

Brian Matusz (1-0), the fourth overall selection in the 2008 draft, was recalled from Double-A Bowie to make his first start. The left-hander gave up one run on six hits and three walks in five innings.

Markakis and Izturis each homered and Melvin Mora and Matt Wieters each had an RBI for Baltimore.

Jarrod Washburn (8-7) made his debut for Detroit after the club acquired the veteran from Seattle last week. But Washburn, named the American League pitcher of the month for July Tuesday, allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Magglio Ordonez went 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Tigers.

MLB: Baltimore 4, Toronto 3

Baltimore, July 12: Melvin Mora hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 12th inning Saturday, giving the Baltimore Orioles a 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Mora's first homer in more than two months, and third this season, broke a 3-3 tie with one out in the bottom of the 12th.

Luke Scott hit a solo homer in the fourth. Matt Wieters and Aubrey Huff had one RBI each, while Nick Markakis and Ty Wigginton added two hits apiece for the Orioles, who have won three of their last four games.

The winner was Mark Hendrickson (5-4), who pitched one inning of scoreless relief for Baltimore.

MLB: Baltimore 5, Seattle 3

Seattle, July 8: Ty Wigginton put Baltimore in front with a two-run single during a five-run ninth inning Wednesday, rallying the Orioles to a 5-3 victory over Seattle.

Seattle's David Aardsma (2-3) came on in the ninth to protect a 3-0 advantage and gave up the lead before he could record an out. Two errors by Mariners second baseman Jose Lopez made two of the ninth-inning runs unearned.

Melvin Mora opened the inning with a double, Gregg Zaun walked and Oscar Salazar singled to load the bases.

Adam Jones then drove in a run with an infield single and Nick Markakis reached on a costly fielding error by Lopez. That miscue accounted for the second run of the inning and kept the bases loaded.
