Czink rallies for Bell Challenge title

Quebec, Sept. 20 -- Melinda Czink of Hungary dropped the opening set but came back to down Czech Lucie Safarova Sunday in the title match of the Bell Challenge in Canada.

Czink's 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win was her first in WTA singles competition.

"It feels great. I haven't really processed it yet but I will," Czink said.

"I went match-by-match this week. This was the toughest match this week ... We really pushed each other, and I'm happy I could come out the winner."
Safarova was trying to win for the fifth time on the tour.

"We both played a good match," Safarova said. "I think it just came down to a few balls and she did it better."

No. 1 seed withdraws in Quebec City

Quebec, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Melinda Czink moved into the semifinals of the Bell Challenge Friday when top-seeded Nadia Petrova retired from their match after one set.

Petrova, the defending champion, has been suffering from a viral infection and she said she felt too weak to play after dropping the first set in a tiebreak.

That put Czink in the semifinals against Aleksandra Wozniak, who is two victories away from the first tournament title of her career.

Wozniak coasted past Alla Kudrysvtseva in their quarterfinal matchup 6-1, 6-2.
The other semifinal will send Lucie Safarova against Julia Goerges.
