MLB: Cleveland 5, Chicago White Sox 3

Chicago -- Matt LaPorta gave Cleveland the lead with a seventh-inning double Wednesday and the Indians went on to down the Chicago White Sox 5-3.

The Indians won their first game of the season in their second try, five games quicker than they did last year.

Fausto Carmona gave up one hit over six innings to get the win, but he walked six batters and allowed three runs.

Cleveland came back from a 3-0 deficit with a three-run fourth, getting an RBI single from Michael Brantley and a two-run base hit by Grady Sizemore.

LaPorta then put the Indians in front with his two-out double in the seventh that brought home Shin-Soo Choo from second. The run was charged to losing pitcher Randy Williams.

Cleveland, Sept. 25: Fausto Carmona gave up nine hits but just two runs in six innings Friday, helping the Cleveland Indians to a 4-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

In his best outing this season, Carmona (9-12) threw 92 pitches, walked one batter, struck out six and induced eight timely ground ball outs.

One of two hits by Luis Valbuena was a fifth-inning solo homer. Lou Marson had two RBI.
A run scored on Melvin Mora's fifth-inning error, while Matt LaPorta added two hits for the Indians, who snapped an 11-game losing streak, one shy of the franchise record set in 1931.

Nick Markakis homered and Michael Aubrey drove in a run to lead Baltimore, which has lost eight in a row.

The losing pitcher was starter David Hernandez (4-9).

Baltimore, Aug. 27: Andy Marte, his team down to its final strike in the ninth inning, came through with a two-run homer Thursday that gave Cleveland a 5-4 win over Baltimore.

The Orioles seemed on their way to a 4-3 victory when closer Jim Johnson (3-5) retired the first two batters in the ninth on grounders. Matt LaPorta, however, kept the inning alive with a single to center at the end of a seven-pitch at bat.

Marte, who spent most of this year with Class AAA Columbus, then worked Johnson for a 3-2 count before hitting his second home run of the season.

MLB: Cleveland 11, LA Angels 3

Cleveland, Aug. 20: Matt LaPorta and Asdrubal Cabrera each had two-run doubles in a seven-run sixth inning Thursday in Cleveland's 11-3 rout of the Los Angeles Angels.

The Indians' 16 hits cooled off the division-leading Angels, who had won their previous five games.

Justin Materson (4-4) threw 6 1/3 shutout innings, but he and the Indians were locked in a 1-1 deadlock before Cleveland produced its big inning. Masterson, acquired from Boston before the trade deadline, won his first game for Cleveland in his third start with his new team.

Los Angeles starter John Lackey (8-6) gave up five of the seven runs in the sixth while retiring only one batter.
